Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My kids go to RE as a social outlet and to be a part of our parish community. I haven't seen that they have learned much, but some years have been fun and others not so much. Our parish has few children, so (I think) it is important for parish health that my little clan attend. Our RE classes average 2-3 kids/class.

This is exactly our situation. I simply send my kids RE to be part of our (tiny) Catholic community.

Same here. I do not depend on them for catechesis of my children, but it is a nice back-up to what they learn at home. My kids have always enjoyed going and I like that they can feel like a part of our little community.

We are part of a wonderful parish where the priests have been very supportive of homeschooling families and do not require us to attend religious ed in order to receive the sacraments or participate in CYO sports/activities. That said, we have always sent our children to religious ed classes, mostly to feel more connected to the parish.

My husband has been a catechist for many years, and it has been our experience that many, if not most, of the catechists are among some of the most faith-filled people in the parish and genuinely enjoy sharing the faith with the youngest members of the parish. One year we were lucky enough to have one of our children in a class with a Montessori teacher. She was able to incorporate a lot of CGS ideas into her class! This year, I am excited about starting to volunteer, now that our youngest is old enough to attend the preschool classes.

Still, every year, we go back and forth on whether or not to send the children to class. We still do religious ed things at home, regardless. If either of us decided to stop volunteering, then we would likely keep them home. The volunteers are able to send their kids free, and I'm not sure I'd want to shell out all that money just for "social" reasons.
