Mark is headed at this very minute to the out-of-town hospital where my f-i-l has been taken.
He was sick last week with a virus and UTI. They thought they had stablized him and sent him back to the nursing home.
For those of you who aren't familiar with PawPaw, he has had Alzheimer's for the past 5 years. The last 3 yrs have been very hard on him and, last time he was in the hospital, they said he was in the final stages.
He became listless, dehydrated, and his coloring was bad. The nursing home sent him back to the hospital. They are running tests for pnemonia. Two of Mark's aunts went to see him and said he looks terrible and "seems to be wasting away" are the words they used.
Mark is planning to stay for the long haul if he has to. The other three boys live and/or work out-of-town.
We could use prayers.
Thank you all.

Praying, Cay. We've lost several family members to Alzheimer's. I'm glad Mark can go to be with his father.

Thank you all for the prayers.
You are all so sweet!
Mark called me this morning. They cannot find anything physically wrong with pawpaw other than very early stage of pnemonia.
Seems his vital signs are excellent. Mark said his dad's blood pressure is better than his own.
I suspect the virus and UTI really dragged him down. Viruses weaken a healthy person. I can only image what it does to an elderly man with Alzheimer's.
Mark said he looks so old and lifeless in that hospital bed. One of the boys mentioned that perhaps he's given up the will to fight.
The doctor did say they think the disease has progressed to a stage where he isn't going to do anything for himself, eating being the biggest concern.
They'll keep him in the hospital this week on antibiotics.
It's painfully disheartening to watch an otherwise healthy person waste away due to the mystery of the brain.
It's one of those times I'm apt to question, "What is God thinking!?"
My mother reminded me that we have to remember that his suffering might not be for him but for those of us around him. Honestly, I don't think he is suffering. He doesn't seem to know anything. One strange thing though is that he's aware that Mark is in the room with him and he calls him by name!
It's a mystery.
Once again, thank you for all the prayers and concern. You are all priceless.
