Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Liking PeakSmart a lot so far. They recommend four quizzes a week, but I set our account so that both my younger children take 10-minute quizzes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I also have had it hide the timer.

The quizzes self-adjust as the child takes them; if problems are missed, the child gets easier ones, and then builds back up. After the quiz, PS emails the parent the results, and the next quiz is customized so that concepts are covered until mastered. I really like that -- less likelihood of gaps in learning that way. Typically, so far, our quizzes are covering 2-3 concepts at a time.

What I don't like: some questions, say on ordinal numbers, require a first-grader to type in "fourth," for example, as a word. My first-grader finds this hard, even when I provide a list of words written out for her to copy. Hunting and pecking on the keypad costs her time -- I've hidden the timer, but the program still notes that the child is taking longer than the time given to complete the quiz. I've given them written feedback about this in their forum, but not sure what they'll do about it.

For our summer schedule, we're reviewing the grades just completed (1st and 2nd) with PeakSmart, while moving ahead using MEP math as a summer workshop. Math has been a huge weakness in our homeschool, and my college-bound child's life was made much more difficult by not learning it well in her early years, so I'm really trying to lay a solid foundation with my youngers.

I'll keep you posted as we continue to work this program.

Sally
