Haven’t posted here in, well, a looooong time, but still stop in from time to time.
I’ll be at IHM. Might just be my last IHM for a while... moving to Montgomery this summer...

A shout out to anyone who was here at the conference! It's over now, but I've a long drive home so I'm staying one more night. This was my first IHM Conference, and next year I hope to come again with my teens.
I bought something (way too much) at nearly all of the tables, including the Arx and Hillside tables! I knew I was brushing shoulders with people from this forum.

I had a great time at the conference as well and was always wondering if I was talking to someone from this forum! It was such a blessed and educational experience for me. I will definitely be going next year as well!

I had such a wonderful time; I wish I could have been there longer. I only went to two talks (which were FABULOUS!), chatted and met up with several people (Caroline and Guitarnan, to mention two from this forum), hit many of the vendors, but missed a few due to the awkward layout! Bummed about that! I had lots more chat left in me, but no more time.
I heard Dulles Expo Center was sold in January, so that's the reason for this venue. It was awkward, so they are looking for another locations. Rumor says maybe out Leesburg way? We'll see.

OK, I went, I had a good time, but I seem to have missed a TON OF VENDORS!! I also didn't get to meet a lot of the people I wanted to meet, but I did get to meet Michele and Margot!! And that's so COOL to me, because they are like total rock stars in my eyes!

Double blush!
But it made my local friends sitting there laugh when you said it!
I love getting to meet online friends at conferences. It's so nice to make that in person connection!

According to some local friends, they are considering Fredericksburg's Expo Center, which would be great. A less expensive area with lots of close hotels, tons of restaurants, right next to a Wegman's (world's best grocery store!), plus close to lots of historical sites. If you "like" the conference on Facebook, you can give feedback about potential locations.

That's so funny, Molly, because I just wrote an email saying I really would dislike it to be in Fredericksburg. Most of my local group say the same! My dad explained that it is convenient...but once you get there. I don't find driving to Fredericksburg easy or relaxing.

Now that I have my Internet working (!), I wanted to say I loved the IHM conference. One of the organizers asked me how I would feel about driving out to Front Royal area next year, but for me, that's closer to home...so it would work just fine! I did think the Hilton was more comfortable than the Expo Center, but it was also harder to find vendors. Even though Michele tried to describe where At Home Science was located, I never did find it.
Anyway, it was wonderful meeting up with Jenn, Michele, and Margot, as well as some old hsing friends from my VA parish. Wish I had had a chance to meet up with all of the 4Real ladies there!
I think it would be a nice addition to these conferences if there could be some time available for interacting and meeting up with families of like interest, such as 4Real members or Charlotte Mason educators, or something like that. Somewhat similar to a college reunion where there is usually an opportunity to get together and socialize with your graduating class. I know the point is to learn and shop, but being able to exchange information and ideas with families "in the trenches" would be helpful, too.
Guess there is only so much one can cram into 48 hrs!

I agree, Caroline! I missed so many vendors and was only to browse a short period for most.
Do you think IHM schedules close to Dulles for the convenience to the airport? It will be a hard to travel farther...so sad about the Expo Center. This other conference had to cancel this year.
Remember when NACHE used a public school for their facility? I thought that worked for me.

Yes, I do think that is a factor in getting good speakers. It's a lot easier for the speakers to fly in, give their talks, and be home for dinner with the conference held near Dulles.
I am really just amazed that there isn't a major conference center near Dulles. A school facility would be nicer for the vendor hall (if they could all be set up in a gym or cafeteria), but I wonder if the rooms for the speakers' presentations would be as nice. Or would we all have to squeeze in behind those chair-desk combo units???
