Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just saw that the Homeschool Buyers' Co-Op has Math Mammoth up for 50% off with some freebies I think thrown in.

I've never done the buyers' co-op. Looks like a great deal!

That is a FABULOUS deal...if you use it, of course.... . Thanks for linking, Kacky.

I was thinking of the "Key to" series as well - but I don't know what age they actually start. We'll be using those quite a bit I think in our family when my son is older. Less intimidating than a textbook, gets right to the point, can be more easily transported than a textbook and integrates decently with other curriculum choices (Montessori for us).

One set of "workbook" type books we use are from a Mennonite curriculum (no tomatoes please!). Their math is very, very solid so that my son works only one level above his "grade", rather than 3 or 4; it is not flashy, but is well organized; the pages are good for erasing if needed. The only thing I've found in any of the books thus far for levels 1 through 4 are references to the number of books in the Bible (they have fewer books). Otherwise, their is nothing contrary to our Faith; with many Scripture verses or tidbits linking math to Scripture (comparisons of the heights of David and Goliath, for example).

We don't do everything in the booklets (they are called "lightunits"), but they are flexible like that - do what you need to and move on. If the child needs more review, it's there. Each school year is divided into 10 light units. They start at level 1 (no Kindergarten) so the first books are really, really basic, but quickly pick up. It is a great confidence builder that way for students who have not had much success with math.

If anyone is interested it is Christian Light and their website is http://www.clp.org.

It would be great if we could have a Catholic version of these books :)

ETA: This set is affordable too! The books are $3.25 each (10 for each grade) and at the lower levels for sure, you really don't need the teacher manual; but if you do get it, it re-sells very easily.

I am using McRuffy Color Math for K-2, but it does use manipulatives. There is a script though that is completely easy to follow. I am planning on using Math Mammoth or Saxon when I get to 3rd. Best of luck with your pregnancies. I am in a similar situation. I was put on complete bedrest for about 3 months during my last pregnancy. God has let me know that we are not done having kids so I am just going to assume I am going to have the same problems again too. Best of luck and God bless you!!!

I did it, bought the Light Blue Series from Mammoth!

We have been using Rightstart, which I still love. Hope to integrate the two, leaning more on Mammoth.
