Amy, that is one of the funniest things I have read.....OH MY!!! I haven’t read the LOTR but the boys have watched it so many times, I really know the movies pretty well. I didn’t read P&P until after I had joined this forum. I feel envious of all you ladies who still can look forward to reading Jane for the first time!!

Michele, could younger (like 8,9) year-olds see The Young Victoria? We can get it on instant movies and I really want to see it, but it has to be something we can all watch. What do you think?

we need an emoticon for "shivers of sympathetic agony"
and we can NEVER have too many images of Mr. Darcy, IMHO. that's my favorite of the movies, BTW.
the jury is still out on the eggnog tea. it smells delectable, tastes warm and cozy, and I like that it's a blend of black and green teas. but there is something about it that's bugging me; think it might be a slight chicory-ish flavor? the box lists "natural eggnog flavor" (IS there such a thing?) so who knows what it is I'm tasting. but it is nice "wintery" treat for the chilly December nights around here (sometimes we even have to put socks on! )

Oh speaking of hot drinks and eggnog.. I didn't know it until I tried some last year.. but Tom and Jerry's are like a hot egg nog.. but they're old fashioned enough that you don't hear about them anymore. But you can still buy the mix.

OK, so now I'm having peppermint ice cream (I didn't actually eat the chocolate pie!). I'm telling you this for only one reason, so I can do this:

Ahhh, finally made it here!
Hello everyone, I hope I'm not too late to the party -- oops, retreat....
For starters...
I am wearing... my favorite alum sweatshirt, my favorite knit pants, and my favorite warm shearling clogs. plus a ponytail holder, and contact lenses which are bothering me and which I'll take off as soon as I'm done with this.
I am drinking...hot chocolate, topped with some homemade peppermint marshmallows.
Outside my window... is snow, snow, snow.... and Christmas lights.
A favorite thread...
I haven't visited my favorites list in a while, and I'm shocked that I have so many boy lit threads on it! Here are a couple,
Finding Series that Boys Love
Fiction for Boys
plus the thread
True Simplicity
A retreat visitor I wish would drop in is...Maria Rioux, or Margot Davidson! (If they're here, my apologies. I haven't been able to visit the other pages yet! Will do that next!.... copying and editing now. Marilyn, and Nina, and Lissa.
If I weren't on this "retreat" I should be... Well, we're having dinner guests tomorrow, so I really should be cooking and cleaning, which I will in a bit... doing a little at a time here.
I am hoping... that next week will be as relaxed and Christ-focused as we can possibly make it.

Our winter favorite is Hot Buttered Rum:
1 T. butter
Some cinammon, a tiny bit of cloves, some nutmeg
2 T brown sugar
Some rum
Put all above ingredients in a mug. Add hot water, stir and enjoy.

I really do have it on my list of things to do!! Maybe next Summer, when we can actually go to the beach with Lily’s trach out.....I’ll bring the Hobbit and start the whole series. Don’t you think The Hobbit would be the place to start?

Theresa/lapazfarm, I was so shocked to find you've moved again! I must have missed it in all the threads here at 4real.

Same here. We stayed up 'til 1 am Wednesday night to finish up. It was 8-yo's request. Next year I promised I'd learn to decorate them PROPERLY :D.
Mel/SeaStar, so not an eggnog fan. I tolerate it because dh and oldest dd love it (even though they're allergic to it). I really should find an allergen-free recipe.
Waah, Carole, I missed you :(. What's with the cast???!!!

Ooooohhhhh, that's right - high altitude cooking for you now. I forget how much higher Santa Fe is even than here in the Mile High City. Good luck! |
|

Thanks! Our house is actually in the hills outside Santa Fe. A little place called Glorieta, which is even higher than Santa Fe.
And of course our house in on the very tippy top of a mesa:
Can you see it up there?
We are talking *altitude* people!LOL! |
|

WOW, that's just BEAUTIFUL, Theresa! Lucky you.

It would not be Christmas without out my moms Ponche de Frutas. This is the only time of the year she makes it. It's almost like cider. Of course she has no recipe its just a pinch of this and that but the main ingredients are:
a bag of dried fruit (raisins, plums, apples, apriocts etc)
grated coconut
pilonsillo or lots of sugar
cinnamon sticks
and lot of water
oh I almost forgot fresh cut pineapple
You can drink this hot or cold, but I enjoy it best served hot.
