Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Non-fiction, anyone?

Looking forward to getting ours this weekend. Almost everyone we know has switched to artificial trees and my kiddies are dying to get a tree up. We can't part with the fresh smell (although all the clean up ... maybe).

Mary.. I'm with you.. I did finally recognize enough names to understand where these characters were coming from at least

Oh Chris.. let me show you my dream bathtub.. it has a lip and channel around the top so your overflow is outside the tub so you can sit in deep water. Purist Experience Bathtub

SUGARED CRANBERRIES - Kacky those sugared cranberries look SCRUMPTIOUS.. I might just HAVE to try them

DIVINITY - Theresa, I have an easier time dealing with altitude with candy than with baked goods.. big thing to watch for with divinity is the humidity.. that'll ruin it really fast.. so pick a nice dry day to attempt it.

EGG NOG - Oh I love it.. just get grocery store stuff and I also don't buy it until really close to Christmas or it'll just be all gone.. mysteriously

But for those of you that DON'T LIKE EGGNOG you might give it a try mixed with a lemon-lime soda or sparkling water.. it keeps the yummy flavor but lightens it up nicely so it's not near so thick for drinking.

don't know if they're any good, but apparently there are a few gluten-free beers out there. I (finally ) stopped drinking entirely but can I enjoy them vicariously through you, Theresa?

Yikes! My bad hearing extends to reading...I thought you typed "gluten-free BEARS"...

Kacky, I really hope your toilet still flushes after tonight...there I days when I think indoor plumbing is hardly worth it...

The chocolate dessert looks delicious!!

Eggnog tea -- does it taste like eggnog?? ...intriguing...

Apparently the Strawberry Wheat is even better, but hard to get.

I'll have to look for that! I've seen Purple Haze in the grocery but I'm not a raspberry fan. Strawberry, though.... I'll report back if I find it.

Theresa, haven't tried any gluten free beer but the pictures I found googling make them look good. I'm sure it's not the same, but maybe worth it?

Sheepishly asking...Am I going to get kicked out of the retreat because I don't know any of the P&P characters?    I never even admitted this in the Would you think less of me? thread that I had not read or watched P&P. There, now I've said it...do with me what you must...

I was about to admit that myself!! And now several have come out and said it... I don't feel so bad. LOVE LOTR, though. Mr. Thornton... I just googled and he is in North and South. Obviously I haven't seen it either...

I actually prefer this version of P&P:

Shocking, I know!

Mary, non-fiction is about all I read these days, but I'm sort of embarassed to admit what I like to read...serious philosophy and history...most folks don't find that very exciting to talk about! I mean, Colin Firth is a lot easier on the eyes than a bust of Socrates, let's face it!

I did, however, take a "beach reading" foray into the Master and Commander series this summer, also Horatio Hornblower, and various biographies of Wellington and Nelson plus War and Peace...I now know all about the Napleonic Wars

That and $3.95 will get me (another) cup of coffee!

It's funny, I almost *only* read non-fiction...I can count on one hand the fiction books I've read in the last few years (for myself, I've pre-read and read aloud books for the kids)...and they were Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy's Diary, and the three Lord of the Rings books! The latter were during a quarantine with a newborn ...that was surreal...stuck in one room with a new baby, postpartum hormones, hobbits, and Gandalf!

Meant to add that on the stove for dinner is....

Nothing!

I'm on retreat, after all!

We'll be having leftovers after I get myself in the kitchen (after this post): one of those "many" bean soups with rice and leftover jalapeno/cream cheese/pico dip with chips leftover from a party I went to last night. Doesn't exactly go together but I'll get over it.

Meh. Double post. That's odd.

Doh!

I had just deleted the second. Girls, you'll have to imagine the second post.

So is that Keira Knightley in that version? Haven't seen it either. I think I need to at least watch the movie even if I don't read the book!

We've been on a British flick kick (hey that rhymes!) here lately.

Have you seen The Young Victoria? Beautiful movie!

We've watched North and South, Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility is an old favorite and Emma. Of course those are just recently --we've watch plenty others.

I am wearing...a denim skirt with red nicer tee with 3/4 sleeves, white knee socks.. and heavy snow boots (I could slip them on for running out to the garage and doing laundry.. it's cold out there.

Outside my window...it is super cold! Got up to 25* today and is dropping.. down to 22* (11* with wind chill) but at least the numbers are still positive. Icy snow covers the ground but the walks and roads are fairly clear. The wind is biting cold but it helps dry up the hard surfaces.

If I weren't on this "retreat" I should be... doing laundry.. maybe next time we should have a laundry party

We just watched this. Loved the film. Don't you just wish he would have lived longer? Nine kids .
