Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I can't believe I haven't seen that movie, Melinda...now I'm going to HAVE to watch it!

I'm wearing...black Athleta workout pants (not that I have been working out, mind you, but they're comfy)

I'm drinking...the last dregs of a late (too late?) cup of java because I'm part Swedish and drinking coffee is what we do

Outside..it's snowy

A favorite thread...wow! Lots of them. But my all-time most visited thread is the one Melinda (I think) put together that has all the liturgical year posts in it. What an incredible resource!

If I weren't on this retreat...I would be making a bed, which I guess I'll need to do pretty soon...someone will want to sleep in it (and not Goldilocks )

I am hoping...that my children will stop running around the house! Oh, wait, I can fix that: "OK, everyone read a book! Now!" Done!

Angie, so cute!

Thank you for posting my picture, Jen.

That dessert that looks like JUST an ice cream pie is really much more complicated...

Chocolate crust (buy at store)

Bottom layer: Coffee Ice Cream (softened a LOT) sprinkled with toffee bits and with chocolate sauce drizzled over all.
Freeze til hard.

Top layer: Chocolate Ice Cream. It's supposed to have toffee bits and chocolate sauce drizzled on it, too, but I ran out so you'll all just have to tough it out.

I love to serve this for one of the Advent Sunday dinners we usually have. It's obviously make-ahead, so perfect for Sunday.

Here's my cookie recipe.

Grandma Ohio's Wheatless Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup peanut butter (not reduced fat)
1 cup sugar
1 egg (works with Egg Beaters, too)

Mix in bowl. Bake at 350 for about 8 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet for five minutes before transferring to rack. (Or they will disintegrate!)

I have a photo but they look like, well, peanut butter cookies.

This recipe makes about 18 cookies, so we always double it.

Ok, I'm back. Just had to run and string lights on the tree, hang some decorations in the dining room, wash, cut and put to roast some potatoes, snap some peas, marinate some lamb chops, return some phone calls and switch and fold a load of laundry. You know, just a few quick things!LOL!.
We don't usually have meat on fridays but these chops I took out for yesterday and they didn't thaw in time so they got bumped to tonight.
What's on your dinner table this evening, ladies???

I'm here I'm here.. trying to catch my breath here and see what's going on..

I needed to switch my OS from Vista back to XP and it's been rather time consuming.. but I'm finally feeling pretty good about it.. the only thing I know of that I'm still struggling with is my email contacts list.

And, indeed, I know about that Swedes drinking coffee thing - it's in our genes

Good Heavens there are six pages here already!! I feel like I am late to the party!

I am wearing...layers, it's cold. Jeans with long underwear, Land's End boots. Bright blue turtleneck and long black cable knit sweater.

I am drinking...tea --all day long as I am out of half and half for my coffee (dh is at the store this very moment getting some!)

Outside my window...COLD! A teeny bit of snow leftover from yesterday but thankfully no wind.

A favorite thread...Oh gosh it's hard to pick just one!

A retreat visitor I wish would drop in is...Alice who popped in a few days ago on another thread, Lissa and Mary Ellen. I miss them here!

If I weren't on this "retreat" I should be...Christmas shopping? Ugh no way. I don't know.

So, let me get this straight.....is Mr Thornton from “North and South”? My teen son wandered into the computer room, saw the picture above of Mr Thornton, and informed me that actor is the same guy who is playing a dwarf in the new Hobbit movie. He is over 6’, playing a Hobbit. At 5’, I would not have any problem playing a Hobbit myself

Well, at least I'm finished with that! Unfortunately, I usually keep a detailed list of what I bought for whom, but this year I totally fell down there and I have NO IDEA what is in all these wrapped presents and if I have covered everyone. I just know that I carefully put aside two expensive presents for my ds and his wife...and now I can't find them anywhere! St. Anthony, help!

This is the problem with living in two places and going back and forth constantly.

Theresa, you amaze me with your frequent moves. I would be a total mess..but you seem to deal with it so graciously!

I have the hardest time wrapping presents. I never seem to find time until Christmas Eve and then when things are broken or the wrong item was sent, I get in big trouble. So I'm going to try hard to get that done THIS weekend!

Dinner was stir fry - white rice, leftover cooked chicken, chopped veggies (cheated tonight and used frozen "mandarin style"...let's be honest, I cheat that way almost every time! ) and "special sauce" - soy sauce, garlic powder, onion poweder, powdered ginger, and corn starch to thicken.

Anything we serve with zoo sticks gets gobbled up here!
