Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am wearing... ugh, I knew I should have changed! old white sweatpants stained with cocoa powder and a ratty pink pullover shirt that my dh loves so I wear it.

I am drinking... why yes, I am!

Outside my window... sun is setting, it's cold and sort of slushy/sparkly out there

A retreat visitor I wish would drop in is... I agree, everyone!

If I weren't on this "retreat" I should be... cooking dinner (better get on that), and 1K other things

I am hoping... oh, so much. Too much for words.

wow! I just got on and sped through the first couple hours, and just realized how much I've apparently missed over the past few months: Theresa, I didn't know you left Alaska! guess I'm out of the loop! and I LOVE your NM home!

I am wearing: a "Mele Kalikimaka" T-shirt (complete with sand-man and Santa in swimming trunks), sandals and capris ... and, I hate to complain, but I'm sweating

Outside: it's a little overcast and on the cool side for us: 75 degrees (sorry, northerners ...) but 77 percent humidity.

I'm drinking: about to pour myself some EGG NOG! from Costco! (love it but it's WAY too much work to make.)

Favorite thread: lately, anything in the Domestic Church. needing ideas; always inspired there. really liked the discussion about HS cliques, too.

Want to see here: lurkers and newbies

I should be: doing school! we just got home from my DD's social outing which means DS got a break from school and I am not inclined to start up if I could be on here with you lovely ladies. oh, and I have 18 loads of laundry waiting ...

I am hoping for: a peaceful week leading up to Christmas. bring on the egg nog! (even if I can't spike it anymore. y'all enjoy that for me, OK?)

Mele Kalikimaka, everyone!

Here's my treat...Sugared Cranberries! Gluten Free Theresa!

A friend of mine made them for our yearbook committee meeting this week! It's like an all-natural skittle!

Here it is: Sugared Cranberries! Way yummy and gluten free!

The contrast between the tart cranberries and sugary coating of these Sugared Cranberries makes the flavor of this holiday snack pop in your mouth.

Because of the contrast between the tart cranberries and sugary coating, the flavor of this snack pops in your mouth. The berries are steeped in hot sugar syrup to tame their tangy bite. When entertaining, serve these in place of nuts. For gift-giving, package in parchment-lined tins. Present with a small bottle of the reserved cranberry cooking syrup for the recipient to use as a cocktail mixer. If you can't find superfine sugar, make your own by processing granulated sugar in a food processor for a minute.

Yield: 9 servings (serving size: about 1/3 cup)
Ingredients
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water
2 cups fresh cranberries
3/4 cup superfine sugar
Preparation
Combine granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring mixture until sugar dissolves. Bring to a simmer; remove from heat. (Do not boil or the cranberries may pop when added.) Stir in cranberries; pour mixture into a bowl. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.

Drain cranberries in a colander over a bowl, reserving steeping liquid, if desired. Place superfine sugar in a shallow dish. Add the cranberries, rolling to coat with sugar. Spread sugared cranberries in a single layer on a baking sheet; let stand at room temperature 1 hour or until dry.

Note: The steeping liquid clings to the berries and helps the sugar adhere. Store in an airtight container in a cool place for up to a week.

Oh, there is a gentleman who would like me to introduce him before I go. Let me introduce, Mr. Thornton...

Oh and here's a little something we have been having fun with and pondering...

What do Australians sing at Christmas time? We're assuming some of our standards, "Winter Wonderland", "Frosty the Snowman" etc aren't on the list.

For some reason the kids and I have been wondering!

Okay, here goes...

I am wearing...a funky black skirt, a black T-shirt, black stockings and A CAST!

I am drinking...a glass of red wine. It is almost 10:00 here!

Outside my window...it is dark and has been for about 6 hours. It is very cold and in fact, we had a touch of snow earlier today.

A retreat visitor I wish would drop in...I miss Helen and Marilyn, but I am glad to see everyone here.

If I weren't on this retreat I should be...headed for bed.

I am hoping for...a blessed Christmas for everyone!

I'm finally back from Co-op, guitar lessons, last-minute gift shopping, etc. etc. This is fun!

I am wearing... a red Christmas sweatshirt in honor of our Co-op Christmas party, one-act play and hymn class performance, black corduroy pants, the same black shoes I wear every single day because my orthotics fit into them and a Christmas tree necklace.

I am drinking...diet Coke, breakfast of champions.

Outside my window...is a snow-leftovers mess that did not melt off today because my house faces north. It is almost dark. I can't wait until the solstice...I want the days to grow longer.

A favorite thread...you mean I have to choose? Unfair! I do enjoy the "word for the next year" threads we've had the last couple of years.

A retreat visitor I wish would drop in is...Lissa

If I were not at this "retreat" I would be...here.

I am hoping...to mail ALL the rest of my Christmas packages tomorrow!

Oh and I have to admit I'm flipping from between here and Lowes on FB. Lowes is doing their gift-a-thon again! All weekend! You ladies on FB need to get over there and like. Every hour they offer something at 90% off. The first 100 people (sometimes it's less, sometimes more) who enter their email address get a coupon to purchase the item at 90% off!

Last time in Nov I got a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for $19!!!!!!

That's my kind of fun...cheap stuff

hehehe Chris...nope haven't made them, just ate them.

But my dear friend assures me they are easy. My dd thought they were a bit too tart for her, but she's never liked a good Granny Smith either. So I know my boys will devour them.

We're having a family party next week. A bunch of them are on diets so I thought even though these have sugar, they are fat free and the recipe comes from Cooking LIght magazine. All reasons I think someone on a diet can eat them

So fun to be connected from so far away. It's a teleconference without the tele!

Oh, everything looks so good!!

I **love** eggnog -- way too much I'm afraid. This season HEB is carrying the gallon size, and we've gone through more than one jug. If I didn't have to set a good example we'd have gone through more...

Best eggnog was one Borden made when I was a little girl (many years ago). They changed the recipe, oh, at least 20 years ago and I've never found another eggnog as good. (Though Southern Comfort Vanilla Spice eggnog is darn good.)

folklaur wrote:
My favorite cookie is oatmeal cookies with butterscotch and chocolate chips.

Mine too...only minus the butterscotch and chocolate and add raisins. Though I do love butterscotch.

Wearing: gray corduroy pants, a white tank under a light green sweater, blue/turquoise/lt green polka-dotted short socks, glasses (which I should be looking through right now) are holding back my hair -- as usual.

drinking: nothing, which is bad. i really need some water so will go get some in a minute. I'd love coffee but can't have it this late in the day.

view: wintery looking sky, circle driveway out front. I enjoy the view because we just moved from a small rent house in a busy part of town. Now I like looking out and seeing the kids bike down the sidewalk. It's kind of cold today for "here" and I'm not a fan of the cold.

(Theresa --- your house and view are amazing!!)

Visitors: anyone too shy or "new to homeschooling" to post who really wants to.      I miss Chari, Willa, Helen ... and so many of you. Not necessarily because you aren't posting but because I've not been reading as much as I'd like. Hope to catch up with you all in the coming months.

what I should be doing: yikes! I should be finishing online shopping and laundry.      Instead I've been reading here and now and popping out to take older two to confession.

Gotta run!
