Well, dd is settled in and she just booted up her Mac, so I'm booting up mine, too! Kind of like parallel play in two-year-olds.
Sorry, Melinda, I think I'm older than you...when you all were watching North and South, I was having my second son...how is that???
I mean, if I were to post my early heart throbs they would be guys like David Cassidy and Davy Jones and Rock Hudson..oh, my, gosh. Disco didn't even get started until I was in college for crying out loud!
I'M FROM THE STONE AGE...WE HAD PHONOGRAPHS (what's a phonograph, Mom???)...EIGHT TRACKS...

Muskrat...muskrat...candlelight...hmmm...
What was that song about? Maybe I don't want to know...the 80's really didn't make much sense anyway, even when you were going through them...
Here's another one: "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar" by Helen Reddy. It seemed to make some sense when you sang along, but when you thought about it, not. so. much.

Carole, here in Canada we have a chain of corner-stores called, "Macs"..around Christmas time, they sell THE BEST eggnog our family has ever tasted! In a light brown one litre carton..
How I wish I were able to mail you some

I remember Bobby Sherman. And Danny Bonaduce (Partridge Family) was in my cousin's CCD class... (Somehow things went haywire there...maybe it's because they sang songs from "Jesus Christ, Superstar" at Mass...)
I had to try to explain reel-to-reel and eight track tapes to my kids...we used to send reel-to-reel tapes to my grandmother (my brother and I would sing, LOL!). My dad recently transfered the tapes we still had left to CD. What a wonderful, precious thing, to hear my beloved grandmother's voice again!

Well, it's slight...at least that's what people tell me. North and South has southern accents that are quite rich and pronounced. The closest modern day version of the North and South southern accents are folks around central Georgia...and even then...it's not as pronounced as in the movie. So...when I say I can break into that accent...that just means I can instantly change my accent to sound like a mid-19th century southern belle.
Sorry for the confusion!
My own natural accent is a blend of cajun-french (my family is cajun french; I was born in and I grew up in Louisiana)...and a melange of all the other places my dad took us as I was growing up - Germany, North Carolina, Tennessee. Somewhere along the way, the accent just morphed...although my husband, who is a yank, tells me that my southern accent was one of his favorite things about me when we first met. The accent probably fluctuates depending on who I'm talking to!

Just mentioning that the "official" retreat hours are coming to a close...but you know how it is when it's time to go, but not everyone is ready to do so. So we won't necessarily really close. I'll still be hanging around. I haven't even had a chance to fill out my retreat daybook entry to add - been busy bopping around. Got to go do that. Just remember if you're the last one to leave, turn off the lights .

Too funny- my older sisters used to play the music from Jesus Christ, Superstar over and over at home, and it scared me to death for some reason. Then I was terrified to watch The Sound of Music, because my sisters said that it was also a "religious movie".

Cool!
My favorite old timer moment is memories of sitting in class at school with the teachers trying to get the film projectors to work. Especially the men would spend the whole class period trying to feed the film through and get the projector going. They would never give up!

How special that you have her voice on a recording! That is just priceless.
I'll be heading off to bed now, since I am not a night owl like Mary! Sleep in Christ's peace, dear sisters!

Ah, my sisters in law live in central Georgia so that's the southern accent I am most used to.
Not at all! I thought maybe I'd had a little too much beer. . .
