I'm at all the wonderful goodies you bake. Our big, exciting treat is to have sugary cereal for breakfast; Nutri Grain and Special K. Actually as we are currently having no cereal at present it will be even more of a treat this Christmas. Although I'd like to make something different, scanning here for ideas, but you all know what children are like about their Traditions!

I have never, ever been able to get a french toast casserole come out right. Never. I have tried different pans, I follow the directions exactly, and still, it NEVER works. I want it to!!!!
According to my dd21, AngieMc's family has an AWESOME Breakfast Casserole that she has had at their house, and she keeps telling me to call Angie to get the recipe (I keep forgetting ) But according to dd, it was fantastic.
I usually do a Monkey Bread? Is that what they are called? Where you use frozen BREAD dough balls, and pudding mix, and brown sugar, and butter, and let it rise overnight? That one. My kidlings love it.

We have a fondue on Dec 24th for supper, it's a long, fun meal with just the eleven of us. So we have plenty of leftover for breakfast the next day, we just scramble some eggs and heat the meats and veggies from supper. It's our tradition. :D
This year I am thinking of cinnamon buns to go with.

I make homemade cinnamon rolls and bacon. We put candles on the rolls and sing happy birthday to Jesus.

Last year I ordered the Christmas Morning Coffee Cake dish from Chinaberry (no longer available). It has the recipe printed in the bottom. It turned out well and I plan on using it again but would love something with protein too!

Oh I remember eating breakfast casserole together...but don't remember which one! I haven't made one in some time...maybe since dd was here ? I'll look through my allrecipe box and see if I can remember...
For Christmas breakfast the past few years, we purchase, wrap, and place under the tree BOXED CEREAL for the boys that we don't buy any other time during the year (Coco Crispies, Fruit Loops, Lucky Charms, etc.) For dh, dd, and ME, we make egg nog panettone french toast with fresh whipped cream and caramel sauce...YUM!!!!!

Hey...I just ran across a recipe just like this...that was cooked in a slow cooker? Question...are frozen bread dough balls something you purchase as balls or do you take a frozen bread dough loaf and make it into balls?
thanks!
Love,

After I told dh about this thread, he said the panettone wasn't his priority as much as the cranberry orange nut bread his mother always makes. I make it when we stay here.

The one I do isn't done in the slow cooker - just the oven. And the dough balls come already frozen in ball shapes. lemme see if I can find a recipe....
This is sort of similar. I am looking for a better one.
I never use nuts or white sugar. I just dump all the dough balls in a tube pan at once, and then sprinkle with butterscotch or vanilla pudding, and then melt the butter and brown sugar together and pour it over the whole thing. It rises overnight, and I put it in the oven first thing. It's SO good.

This is closer (but again, I leave off the nuts.):
Monkey Bread
Also, most of the recipes specify using NON-instant pudding. I don't know why.

I goofed...this recipe isn't in a slow cooker (I was power recipes hunting and blurred my recipes ) and found a similar recipe at this easy brunch link.
Thanks for explaining the frozen dough balls/dinner rolls detail! I'm looking forward to trying this recipe - YUM!

They are usually this brandwhenever I have found them. Usually in the bottom of the freezer case section, lots of times by the frozen pies, or the frozen garlic bread.

My mom always makes this for Christmas as well. She uses the frozen rolls, so they are already in balls. She does do walnuts, but other than that, they're just like Laura describes. Very, very good!

My grandma always made sausage bread to snack on along with all the sweets we would have in the morning. Basically, it was just browned sausage and tons of cheese put on top of some rolled-out bread dough. Then the whole thing was rolled into a log, brushed with butter, and baked as a stuffed bread.
If you can believe it, a few hours later (after gifts) they would do a full breakfast spread: fried eggs, bacon and sausages, hashbrowns, fruit salad, and mimosas.
My grandparents moved away a while back, but we still do Christmas Eve breakfast with my parents. In addition to the monkey bread, my mom usually does an egg casserole with sausage and gruyere and a fancied up fruit salad with a bit of raspberry liquer. And mimosas--always mimosas!
Our problem on Christmas Day itself is that we go to a morning Mass, so we're usually fasting in the morning to prepare (we do a three-hour fast). With all these mouth-watering ideas, though, we may need to have breakfast-for-dinner on Christmas Day!

Monkey Bread Update
Laura, I finally made the Monkey Bread yesterday for brunch. It was a HUGE hit! I combined both of the recipes you shared and especially liked using the frozen dinner roll dough instead of refrigerated biscuit dough. Thanks!
Love,
