Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I don't want to make anyone green with envy, but I was lucky enough to be at Alice's house (along with 70 or so kids and their moms) for her Lenten Tea. It was magnificent.    The food was great, with plenty for all. The gospel reading held all the kids entranced. I discovered that I like figs!

I am encouraging Alice to post photos of this great day...the sun was bright and it was 65 degrees, too!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, MacBeth! There was plenty of food because you and all those other generous mothers were kind enough to provide so much for us.

I would love to post photos, although I didn't get as many as I thought. Still, there are one or two good ones in the camera, I'm sure!

BTW, I think the highlight of the day was the raffle of Maureen's new book, "The Catholic Homeschool Companion." The mom who won was thrilled, as well she should be. Many thanks for donating a copy!

(An aside: MichelleW, I notice the one year anniversary of your admission to 4Real is coming up in a day or so. We should get you a cake!)

Gang, I hope you will forgive me for sending you over to my web log, but it is impossible for me to upload photos to 4Real--I've been trying for a year and a half, but my browser will not cooperate.

Please take a quick look at Cottage Blessings for photos of the Lenten Tea table.

Thanks very much!

MacBeth, remember earlier today, I was guessing we had about 70 children? Well, I just tallied the attendees, and it was close to 100 children, not counting the 25 moms! Thank goodness we had such glorious weather--our house wouldn't have accomodated everyone!

That's huge! We are planning to have our own Colorado Lenten Tea during Holy Week - with Gwen and Michelle M. and kids. Hope it goes as well as yours.

What great photos. Your tea was beautiful!! Can you elaborate on the actual ceremony a little? Did everyone fill their plates with all the food, then eat it as the scripture verse was read? Did they eat everything and then listen to the verses? Or were they served with each item as the scripture was read? Anybody else who's had a tea care to comment? Thank you!

I was there too. It was just such a lovely afternoon. The children got so much out of it. You should have seen the rapt attention all those children gave Alice as she beautifully read the Gospel of Mark. They tried new foods and generally had a wonderful time.

Alice's hospitality is so generous and a wonderful example.

The Cottage is the only place to be in springtime.

Check my blog (below) for a post about it.

Forgive me for not responding to this thread sooner! I've been meaning to write to thank all of you, but especially Mary Ellen for her kind reviews!

Gwen, because of our enormous crowd, I gave the children printed menus to follow along and then read the Gospel, stopping every now and then to point out the individual offerings and their significance. At the end, they lined up with plates, taking the items that interested them.

If there had been fewer children (say my own family), I might have attempted to pass around the food during the reading, but this would have been very distracting with all the children around that tea table! Filling the plates first might have worked, but I was concerned that some of the trays would be emptied before the children had a chance to understand the significance of each item.

Because the one chapter doesn't take long to read, it worked out well to read first and eat later. The second tea will be posted this weekend. I've been so busy that I haven't had time to type it out yet, but it is less intricate than the Chapter 14 Tea.

You are all great! MichelleW, I really would love to get that chocolate cake to you tomorrow! If only you weren't 3,000 miles away!
