Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Natalie,

Here was the very first bread recipe which I learned to make! This recipe always bring back fond memories as a sweet friend came to my house after the birth of one of my children and she taught me her favorite bread recipe!

1 1/3 cups oatmeal
2 tsp. salt
2 cups water

Cook oatmeal with salt and refrigerate until room temperature.

4 tsp. yeast
1/2 cup warm water

Dissolve yeast in warm water.

3 T. honey
1/4 cup oil
5 cups whole wheat flour

Mix flour, oil, honey, oatmeal and yeast together.

Knead 20 min. Let rise 1 hour. Punch and rise 1/2 hour. Punch and rise in pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

I am curious if you were speaking only of whole wheat flour because my daughters have two very favorite recipes for bread (one we make in a bread machine and one we braid and bake in the oven)and I have one we all just love for making rolls, but all these recipes call for ALL PURPOSE FLOUR.

I would be happy to post those family holiday favorites if anyone is interested.

Deus tibi benedicas,

Jill
