Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dd thought the obvious would be The Umbrella by Jan Brett, but I'm going to make my selection a sweet book for boys and their daddys:

Up on Daddy's Shoulders by Matt Berry

Very sweet and nice illustrations. A favorite with my little guys .

Let me just say, I'm going to give you an award, Marybeth - you named a book that ended in a "U"!!!!! Do you know how rare that is??? I was at the library today looking at titles because I had realized some letters are just not going to be used because they are rare at the end of words - "U" was one of them, also "I" or "O" unless you're speaking Italian or Spanish . The most common ending letters by my estimation are A, E, D, N, R, S, T which if you look at our selections so far bears out. A lot of the others can be found fairly frequently - G, H, M, Y. But a few are going to be really tough (and I'm not just talking about Q, V, etc.) By the way, a lot more words end with X than start with it!

"J" is really hard and you wouldn't think that until you start trying to think of words that end in J. V and C also - not so common as endings.

So that's my evening rambling...

So, Mary, you did a lot more thinking on that, but I was mulling over the same problem -- how there aren't that many words with those endings, and how to incorporate some of the other letters that will never come up!

I'll take this one and give a title that ends in a letter we haven't had yet.

Sheep in a Jeep - Nancy Shaw

Now a "P".

In order to get other letters in, we could make silent E's optional, so in the case of One Morning in Maine, we could go with N or E?

I have a feeling there will be a lot of silent Es.

That is a brilliant idea, Lindsay. So let's go with silent "e" is optional - use it if you want or use the letter before it. Hey, we might actually be able to find a J of V that way .

I love that book - would have chosen it for "T" also.

And now I'll implement the silent "e" rule and go with "K" here.

Katy and the Big Snow - Virginia Lee Burton

"You" - totally a common word that ends in "U" - how did I forget that one??

Speaking of squirrel lovers...I am NOT one at all, in fact I would be the opposite..but gosh darn it there are so many cute squirrel books. Melinda, I think we need a thread for those...
