We read this book in the spring and really enjoyed it. We just checked the book out from the library again.

Oooh, Jenn and Marybeth, I am happy to hear that we were all thinking of the same book. Tina, I want a b or two, too. I wonder if we are thinking of the same books.

The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston, illustrated by Barbara Cooney
I first read this book about ten years ago and I still like the story, so do my children. Papa is still away at war and its Ruthie's family's turn to provide the Christmas tree for their small Appalachian town.

St. Germaine and Her Guardian Angel by Louise Cantoni
I really liked this story when I was little; I still do. My daughters have a special fondness for St. Germaine thanks to this book.
Edited because I wrote the wrong title.

Tillie and the Wall by Leo Lionni
He is one of our favorite authors. I say this yet we have about 100 favorites. It is hard to choose...

OH, OH, OH, OH CHARI!!!!!!
This is one of my favorites!!!! This is why I wanted "P" for the original "Poppy Seed Cakes".
I learned about this book from Mary Reed Newland's The Year and Our Children. It took me a while to hunt it down because she had the wrong author (listed it by the illustrators), plus it being written in 1924, you can only buy old copies.
"Margery Clark" is actually a nom de plume of Margery Closely Quigley and fellow librarian Mary E. Clark. The book is illustrated by Maud and Miska Petersham and are so delightful!
This is such a great read-aloud, and to hear the little ones later talking about Auntie Katushka and the childish behaviors of Andrewshek and Erminka that get them into trouble.
I've done some asking around, because I thought I was based on Ukrainian, but it's kind of a blend of Hungarian, Slavic, Russian, and Ukrainian traditions, which was common in the US to put a blend.
I put this in our Lent/Easter/eggs pile, since it ties a bit with our pysanky.

Here's the spreadsheet in a web page again.
I remembered I wanted to list the illustrators, too, so that's a work in progress. We're up to 203 titles!
This is so good to take to the library for inspiration!
