Oh, can I store the 50/50 mixture in anything - like a plastic container? And do I need to store in the refrigerator?
Thanks again!

Yep, I made up 2 containers, plastic ones like the tub you get deli thin meat in the lunchmeat dept. at the groc. store. I made a container for the bedroom and one for the bathroom. So, I guess that answers the question about refrigerating, too. You don't have to refrigerate it. I tend to put it on after a bath/shower each night, right in the tub and I don't have to worry about mess on the floor.

Yep - store it any container you want.
In our home, we have our toothpaste/powder (salt and baking soda, with some dried crushed mint mixed in) in one old glass yeast jar; and deodorant in another. I wonder what people think if they go snooping in my bathroom drawers - I mean, the tops still say "yeast" on them!
I started with them in small plastic condiment containers (like for adding to packed lunches) but we're nixing the plastic in our house too.
If you mix things up with coconut oil, you want to keep it in the fridge, because it liquefies fairly quickly at a warm room temp (ie hot shower steams up the bathroom and the deodorant is liquid!).
ETA: I'm so glad it's working for those who have tried it :)

CatholicMommy, doing your homemade deo up here in Canada too Finding it works nicely for the average day. Still have a bar of the regular stuff for when I exercise tho..I'm not that courageous "just yet"
May I please ask you for your homemade toothpaste/powder recipe? I think it's great you make your own!

Toothpaste:
4 parts baking soda
1 part salt
flavor as desired (we crush dried mint and mix it in - no particular measurement)
Some people need more or less salt - this is just what we ended up preferring.
And now when I go back to using storebought toothpaste, I feel/taste the glycerin. It just feels soapy and I definitely don't feel as clean. Just my experience - I still want to hear others' (there's just not a lot of people talking about it online!)
I don't exercise a whole lot, but when I'm doing something more active, I tend to put some more on, just to be sure - there is definitely that trust factor!

I was going to suggest Toms of Maine, but DH doesn't think it works for me. So, I'm looking for something else. Personally I prefer the Toms, but I'm now in the market for another option.

I am so thrilled at what I discovered last week!!
The Body Shop now has its own line of deodorants called "DeoDry Dry-Effects". It contains NO ALUMINUM AND NO TRICLOSAN.
I've been using them for a week now and they actually work for me! If I sweat even using deodorant, I seem to always have an odour. It also doesn't take much for me to make the underarm parts of my shirt wet, so I much prefer something that keeps me dry.
The Body Shop Deo Dry
Edited: They are quite expensive - just a precaution.
Edited again: Here's the link to the States' one - it's cheaper. The Body Shop

I've been using Crystal essence, lavender & white tea scent. It is a liquid salt roll on. It is awesome! And I will add that I live in southern Louisiana, very hot and humid even this time of year. I've been working outside and at the ball park, and it's working great!

My husband caught me reading this and smiled and shook his head...
I love Tom's of Maine Lemongrass, but it wears off quick and then I get what I like to call "hippy pits". FOr some reason, after this last baby, I am EXTRA.... shall we say, aromatic? I purchased the Dry Idea Clinical Strength (love the name, "Dry Idea" - like it is only an idea... ), and it works pretty good, but not perfect, and I hate the idea of putting that stuff on my body.
So, I mixed up the 50/50 this morning. Thanks for all of the suggestions, ladies!

Thanks

lisat.momof6, I'm curious, is this product only sold online?

Just a heads up on the Body Shop ones...the clerk there told me that the stick works better than the roll-on. Just so you know.

Thank you for adding this, I tried the roll on, it didn't weork for me. so maybe I'll try the stick.
I really want somthing natural that works. I've trried the baking soda/cornstarch mix. It worked fine while I was pregnant, but afterward it didn't, guess my hormones have an effect on my odor? I tried Tom's of Maine.. had extreme burning in my armpits with that. It was awful! I'm not sure if it worked either. Sigh...for now I'm back to regular stick deodorant, I unfortunately have to use something, can't get away without it.

I feel your pain, Pilgrim. I have tried just about everything recommended.
I'm having limited success with Tom's of Maine unscented stick... though I don't feel really confident using it unless I put it on twice a day. But if I forget and am out somewhere, then I feel uncomfortable
I'm not a heavy sweater or anything, either. Argh.
My niece swears the Tom's apricot is working for both her and her husband.
Back to the drawing board....
ETA: I am getting upset that deodorant is becoming such a source of stress in my life. Sheesh

melinda.. have you tried the scented tom's of maine? sometimes the scented will give better coverage than unscented.
Also.. just stick an extra in your purse.. and if you're out somewhere.. you'll have some with you if there's any chance of finding somewhere to put it on.

Made an odd discovery a while ago:
So you know the 5 o'clock "pick-me-up" your armpits may need (especially if you are going aluminum free)... when whatever you're using is wearing off and you notice an "aroma" that is unpleasant emanating from your very own blessed pits???
I found a quick cure when you are out and about or for whatever reason you can't reapply whatever it is you were using:
Instant Hand Sanitizer (I usually have some conveniently in my van). Just put a small blob on your hand and rub it on each armpit and the smell will be gone! It must be the alcohol killing all the bacteria.
Now, I wouldn't recommend this for daily, consistent use... but it sure can come in handy if you need a quick freshen up!

FWIW: the only Tom's that works with any degree of success for me is the Lemongrass. But even that will wear off by mid-afternoon or if it's hot outside.
