Michael is out of surgery and doing very well - sore but in excellent spirits. They only had to remove a small amount of the rod, which was the best possible scenario. The operation took longer than expected due to an equipment failure. Apparently they use heavy duty bolt cutters for this job, but when the surgeon picked them up he noticed that the pack was slightly open and was concerned they may not be sterile. He had to resort to using slightly less heavy duty cutters and broke two pairs in the process! And I thought we lived in a high tech age . Michael's sense of humour is already back in full working order (a good sign!) and he was highly amused when the surgeon told him what had happened.
I can't say how much I have appreciated all the prayer this week. We have both been blessed with a confidence that God's hand has been at work all through this. I shudder to think what might have happened if the infection had not been picked up so quickly and had become deep-seated. Also we were already aware that there were possible problems with this rod, and think he would have ended up needing an operation, infection or no infection. As it is, it is all done and over with, and he should be fully recovered before the baby arrives in June.
A very relieved and grateful Kathryn

Thanks for sharing your good news! We'll pray that Michael bounces back quickly, that you get all the rest you need, and that the surgeon can find a better bolt-cutter supplier.

I was praying for Michael as soon as I saw the request but just now see that he had surgery. So we'll pray for total and quick healing and peaceful preparations for baby's entry.
