Our biggest issues during the Cub years were with inadequate leadership (like, no meetings), so one year I teamed up with two other moms and we took over the den, taking turns planning meetings. This means I've been through Cub Scout leader training, youth protection training, etc. We were taught to keep thing simple, make them fun, and do it outside whenever possible. Most of the time, it worked.

I know some dens and packs are near-mayhem experiences, but we have not that happen.
