Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One more way to reduce sunscreen use. Use a moisturizing lotion before sunscreen.

When your skin is dry it absorbs more sunscreen and you can't spread it as thin as with well moisturized skin.

I agree with the lotion - that really helps the sunscreen spread better, absorb better (surprisingly) and last longer. Just don't use TOO much moisturizing lotion ;)

I canNOT believe what happened this past summer.

1) I wear long sleeves and long skirts anyway - and I'm not worried about my feet (sandals) burning. So I just need my face, neck, ears when we're going to be out in the direct sun - otherwise a simple hat takes care of it.

2) My son HATES putting on sunscreen, so the agreement is "long sleeves and pants - or sunscreen". He has 100% cotton loose fitting shirts and play pants - sandals are fine (and that exposure helps with the vitamin D component). He did a bit of sunscreen on his hands, neck and ears - wore a hat....

We also weren't outside at the most direct sunlight times.

AND we only use less than a full 4 oz bottle of sunscreen. AND NOT ONE BURN (not even a tinge). And neither of us tan at all so that wasn't it!

I can't find the bottle we used - it's a pricey one, but I got it free in exchange for a blog review (and that post was wiped out in a upgrade :( I need to get it resurrected one of these days). All-natural, safe.

Frankly, if you can cover up (look at the natives in middle eastern countries - even the men wear long robes to this day - yes you CAN be cool-ish outside with clothing over you) - and avoid the most direct sunlight - you'll get enough vitamin D being out for a bit anytime the rest of the day (a few minutes is all it takes) - and you won't use so much sunscreen.

We LOVE the Caribbean Solutionssunscreen.

I couldn't believe how natural the sunscreen was...and was very uncertain as to its claims.

However, my dh and I have found that this sunscreen works much BETTER than any commercial brand sunscreen we have bought. Go figure.
