I love the name Brigid - but it doesn't flow with our last name. Lawrence has been on our boys list a few times.

My husband has a cousin named Thaddeus, and he goes by TJ or Thad.
As far as Axel. . . Mr. Rose spells his Axl, so there is a distinct difference there. My son has an Axel in his class, and when I heard the name I thought Guns'N'Roses, but when I saw it spelled with the "e" I assumed it was the Norse name.

Mr. Rose - Do you suppose that's what Mr. Brownstone called him??

I like all those names. They are classic and rich with tradition.
BTW My friend married a Norwegian and her oldest son is Reuben Aksel...another form of Axel.

My humble .02.
Thaddeus is a good name.
He will get teased if he is nicknamed Teddy however. I've seen it happen.

it's my experience that if kids want to tease another.. they'll find a way no matter what the name is.
And so much depends on the other kids they're around. Homeschoolers have a much better chance of avoiding any nasty teasing simply because they're often more closely supervised than other kids.

This is true, absolutely. But the Teddy I knew got teased even into adulthood... everything from lingerie jokes to ridiculing his masculinity because of his cutesy name.
I'm not against the name... just sharing my experiences. Ultimately, you name from your heart... with a bit of common sense of course.

I forgot about the lingerie thing. But there are other good names -- John being one that comes quickly to mind -- that are also used for some unpleasant or unsavory things; I guess John for one is just so common a name though that the association is not very strong. I figured a boy called Teddy would be Ted as an adult, though Edward M. Kennedy was still called both sometimes, wasn't he?
Anyway, in the ultrasound pic we got yesterday (no good ones at 20 weeks, and these not so great either), he doesn't look much like a Thaddeus to me. Gotta think about what he does look like... probably something that happens to be less uncommon.
