Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

as an update, we had the opportunity to buy a house in the city, next to our parish just a few months after this thread!

Haven't looked back.

I'm so glad to hear it!

We are homeowners now as well in the same urban neighborhood I was writing about a few years ago.

Awesome update, ladies! Good for you!!!!

My husband and I were talking just this week about how down the road, living urban might be a very good fit for us. As we're getting older and our children are starting their adult lives, I can really see the perks of living "downtown." My husband works in the city and sooooo may things (including access to medical care) that are life-enhancing are there.

In the mean time, I'm still super happy with where we live now .

Love,

I had to laugh at my response three years ago.....it’s the same still...big city for me, with the perfect situation being a cabin to go to on the weekends or for long stretches. When we were in Chicago for the kids’ specialists visits at the hospital, we roamed the area around the Poetry Foundation’s building, which was an amazing building with a very large poetry library...and there was a Whole Foods down the street...and the beach was five minutes away, and the EL was nearby to take us all over the city.... I pointed to some town-homes across the street from Whole Foods and said, “THAT”S where I want to retire!” I’m sure if I did, though, there would be a list of things that would be difficult that I hadn’t thought of. So....I am working on contentment where we are at this moment.
