Another update:
Thanks...just a few more notes. I have definitely lost the baby. They explained that the baby had already died, but that the placenta could still produce small amounts of HCG for awhile. But this morning my numbers are down, so the final indicator that I have a little soul in heaven. Not sure when I go home...but it should be sometime today.
My pain is at a minimum...this is NOTHING like a c-section! Deo Gratias for that!
Your prayers have been so wonderful, thank everyone for me. I'm completely at peace and feel wrapped close in Mary's mantle. Our Lady of Guadalupe has been so inspiring to me during this trial.

Jenn -- Oh I'm so sorry!
Here are some prayers that I found on EWTN's index of prayers -- wish I'd had them last year when I miscarried.....
My Lord, the baby is dead!
Why, my Lord—dare I ask why? It will not hear the whisper of the wind or see the beauty of its parents’ face—it will not see the beauty of Your creation or the flame of a sunrise. Why, my Lord?
“Why, My child—do you ask ‘why’? Well, I will tell you why.
You see, the child lives. Instead of the wind he hears the sound of angels singing before My throne. Instead of the beauty that passes he sees everlasting Beauty—he sees My face. He was created and lived a short time so the image of his parents imprinted on his face may stand before Me as their personal intercessor. He knows secrets of heaven unknown to men on earth. He laughs with a special joy that only the innocent possess. My ways are not the ways of man. I create for My Kingdom and each creature fills a place in that Kingdom that could not be filled by another. He was created for My joy and his parents’ merits. He has never seen pain or sin. He has never felt hunger or pain. I breathed a soul into a seed, made it grow and called it forth.”
I am humbled before you, my Lord, for questioning Your wisdom, goodness, and love. I speak as a fool—forgive me. I acknowledge Your sovereign rights over life and death. I thank You for the life that began for so short a time to enjoy so long an Eternity. -- Mother M. Angelica

Blessing of Parents after a Miscarriage
When a baby dies before birth, the parents may seek the prayers of the Church. A priest, deacon, or lay minister of the parish, or a member of the family may lead this blessing.
Make the sign of the cross.
The leader begins: Let us praise the Father of mercies, the God of all consolation. Blessed be God for ever.
All respond: Blessed be God for ever.
The leader may use these or similar words to introduce the blessing:
For those who trust in God,
in the pain of sorrow there is consolation,
in the face of despair there is hope,
in the midst of death there is life.
(Name) and (Name), as we mourn the death of your child,
we place ourselves in the hands of God and ask strength, for healing, and for love.
Then the Scripture is read:
Listen to the words of the book of Lamentations:
My soul is deprived of peace,
I have forgotten what happiness is;
I tell myself my future is lost,
all that I hoped for from the Lord.
But I will call this to mind,
as my reason to have hope:
The favors of the Lord are not exhausted,
his mercies are not spent;
They are renewed each morning,
so great is his faithfulness.
My portion is the Lord, says my soul;
therefore I will hope in him.
-- Lamentations 3:17-18, 21-24
The reader concludes: The Word of the Lord.
All respond: Thanks be to God.
After a time of silence, all join in the prayers of intercession.
These conclude with the Lord's Prayer.
Then the leader may invite all to extend their hands over the parents in blessing.
Father and Creator,
in whom all life and death find meaning,
we bless you at all times,
especially when we have need of your consolation.
N. and N. entrust to your care a life conceived in love.
May your blessing come upon them now.
Remove all anxiety from their minds
and strengthen this love
so that they may have peace in their hearts and home.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
All respond: Amen.
All make the sign of the cross as the leader concludes: May the almighty and merciful God bless and protect us, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
All respond: Amen.
May you, your husband and dear son find some comfort in these prayers. We'll continue praying too!

THANK YOU, EVERYONE! I'm home and getting a little energy to do computer time. Dh set it up in my room for a little while before he does taxes . I'm just so moved by your thoughts and prayers. Sitting alone in the hospital room I could just feel the spiritual presence of your prayers.
We are sad about the loss of our little one, but God has given us so much hope about possibly having another one, that right now I'm looking forward to the future. And now we have two intercessors in heaven...I'm feeling VERY blessed. We think it was a girl, and named her May Josephine...after my two grandmothers, but also Mary and St. Joseph!
Thanks again. You are strong prayer warriors!

I know this story has been confusing, so I thought I might explain what happened. I was about 5 1/2 weeks pregnant...we found out Feb. 21. It's been a long struggle to get pregnant, and the last one was a miscarriage around JPII's death, so I was overjoyed, but also very nervous. I can echo Irene's fears and prayers....
I had been complaining about some right side pain around my ovary for some time with my Ob, but we hadn't figured out the problem. Since the pain was consistent before the pregnancy, the doctor thought it might be endometriosis, but didn't want to rule out that it might be ectopic. So he ordered some Beta blood draws over some time period to watch the numbers. My HCG levels were low...only creeping up.
Then I lost my pregnancy symptoms, my morning temps were dropping steadily and the right pain became really unbearable and very intense and some spotting. Further blood draws showed HCG levels were still going up, but very little. So there were many indicators to a possible ectopic pregnancy. I had 2 sonograms and both times no signs of pregnancy in the uterus or tubes and my cervix was still closed and no signs of active bleeding.
We decided to go with the laparascopy in case it was ectopic.... Praise God it wasn't that problem, but they found many adhesions from my previous c/s. The doc explained that my uterus was expanding and contracting, trying to miscarry, thereby tugging at my adhesions, causing the pain. They also found no endometriosis.
I'm waiting to miscarry naturally, as I didn't want a D&C to further complicate things I'm overjoyed that it wasn't ectopic!!!
It's been a long road for us to have children, so while we did lose another pregnancy, we have some answers and hope for possibly having another child, so this is a mixed blessing.
Now a question: how long does it take to heal up from a laparascopy? I've got three little incisions. I don't think I'll be able to make it to Mass tomorrow, but maybe I'm being a wimp?

Oh Jenn my prayers are with you!! I understand the necessity of "being everything" for your son and how hard it is when have to do something like this. May the peace of Christ be yours today and throughout the coming weeks. |

Thanks, Amy! After having our first anaphylactic episode 3 weeks ago, I was making my mental plans on foods, recipes and such for him in case I wasn't there. I was planning it happening in 8 months, not a few weeks later, so I hadn't put pen to paper...I thought I had some time. These two emergencies have made it very clear to me that I'm NOT prepared and need to make some more definitive plans.
On the flip side: my family (sisters and mother) are aware of my son's needs and more comfortable taking care of him (and I letting them do it). I've done a lot of verbal "training" and sharing of my recipes and things I do. My one sister told me that I've taught her well and they can do it. That was a huge consolation.
But it was a short term emergency. I should have a list of what he cannot have, including "hidden" ingredients and attached "safe" recipes. I have it all in my head, and dh is trying to decipher it and not really comfortable.
So this is some of my Lenten work to do!

Dear Jenn, there is no such thing as band aid surgery. Give yourself at least a week. For what it's worth my friend had laparascopy to remove scar tissue for endemetriosis (sp?). I think it's the same procedure. Our Dr. told her to have relations the first fertile time after, even if it hurt because it would be the most fertile. It was indeed. There wasn't a miscarriage involved with her procedure so that may make a difference.
I'm so sorry for your loss. You will just stay right up there on my prayer list.

Dear Jenn,
I've been unable to spend much time on the computer the past few days. I've been praying for you regularly throughout each day; however, and felt awful to know what you have been going through. I'm so sorry for your loss. But it is also so good to hear your hope. Prayers will continue. God is faithful!
