Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Erin, thanks for the book suggestions. Since you have already finished the subject, I would be curious to know how you used them as a resource. Did you have your daughter write papers? Take test? Discuss? Any ideas wold be great.

Well I'm going to be totally honest. Dd read lotsof fiction on the topic and I even purchased Anne Carroll's - Christ and the Americas(I suspect she didn't read it though) Dd's passion is historical fiction and it can't be denied that she has learnt much via this approach.

She did start an essay, more of a summation essay on what she learnt. It was never finished, however she concluded the unit by giving a very satisfactory oral summation to the family on all she learnt. There was no doubt that she enjoyed and learnt much on the topic.

Erin,

I just realized that you are in Australia!

I was telling my husband that for our 25th Anniversary (6 years from now) that I thought we should go to Australia and watch some Aussie-rules football! Who knows if it would come about, but the trip could be fun to plan! However, my agony is wondering whether a trip to Australia would be worth about 5 trips to my beloved Paris! But, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Thanks for your honesty in regards to the way that you used the books. Truth be told, if I were not teaching this class in a co-op setting, your approach would pretty much be my approach!

However, since I am going to be teaching other peoples' children and not just my own, I need to be a bit more concrete. Oral narrations will be part of the class, since I foresee having a once per month book discussion over dinner at my house, but I am really hoping to use this class to fulfill my sons writing/composition class, as well as literature and history! (I know, this is only vaguely ambitious!)

Thanks again for all of your responses.

Once again, don't hesitate to chime in if you have something to add.

For instance...has anyone used Cliff Note Complete Study Editions before? I am hoping to find some study guides with answers so that I don't have to reinvent the wheel for every one of the books that I would be using next year!

Wishing you joy on this beautiful day!

Sara
