Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hesitate to post about this but I know you dear ladies will have good advice and experience in this area.

I began spotting last Friday. It has been very light but consistent and anywhere from brown to very bright red. I haven't taken my temperature every single day, but I did not notice a rise is the past two or three weeks until maybe this past Sunday.

I do not believe I am pregnant (or I didn't think I was) because I didn't have a temperature rise and we've been abstaining for several weeks (sad, but true!). My cycles return very early and I think I've had about 4 or 5 good cycles with temp. rises, etc. Not regular cycles, ovulating at the very end of the cycles, but complete cycles.

Truth be told, I am terrified to take a pregnancy test. Every time I have taken a test it's been positive and I'm not quite ready to be faced with the possibility of another baby so soon.

Could I be miscarrying? I've never miscarried so I would not know what to expect. I think some of you have mentioned that you've bled while pregnant and everything is/has been fine. The latter is probably what this is.

But, I will be 43 next month and wonder if this could be the beginnings of menopause.

I know what I need to do, I just don't want to. Big sigh......

Quick Update - I had some follow-up blood work done on Friday, 48 hours after the first set. The results show that my levels doubled which is a good sign that the baby is developing normally in the uterus. I also had a progesterone shot that day. I will get another ultrasound late next week and will post again. By then we should know *everything* and I can move on to some less dramatic posting. :)

At one time or another, especially while nursing, I"ve had something that sounds very similar to what you've described. The OB said that while bf-ing, even if you are having cycles (mine also return early), your hormones aren't always in *normal* balance for cycles, and sometimes estrogen can be low. The same kind of thing that causes v***nal dryness (hope not TMI), and that the surface of the v***na can bleed easily, resulting in the sort of thing you might be experiencing. Don't know whether that sounds plausible for you, but maybe it is.

Peace,
Nancy

Hormonal changes can cause this sort of thing --especially as we get older. It can be frustrating though to not really know what's going on. I'll keep you in prayer.

I was going to say what Michele did - the combo of breastfeeding and age changes do weird things to cycles and hormones sometimes.

I'm on my way out the door to purchase a pregnancy test. I'm nervous but praying for God's will in this. I might not make it back here until the morning. Thank you for all of your prayers!

Consistent spotting is always a pregnancy sign for me - and I bleed almost regularly throughout the first trimester... Prayers for you this morning.

Well......it was positive. I'm not sure what to make of it. The plus sign was very faint while the mark for indicating the test worked was very dark. I've never had this kind of spotting with my previous pregnancies and, really, I just can't figure out how this could have even happened! :) I've thought that before. It would be comical if I wasn't totally freaking out inside. And, I think my mind is just going in all different directions trying to explain away this pregnancy. I hate that I'm conflicted in my feelings and emotions.

We are heading out of town tomorrow for a last minute ski trip. I am so excited for my kiddos as this will be their first time skiing. I think what I'll do is make an appointment for next week and see if a blood test could be done to confirm and evaluate the state of the pregnancy. Is that what I should do?

One thing we read on the box of the test was that menopausal symptoms could give a false-positive result. In my heart, I think this is just not the case, but my head would sure like it to be a possibility. :)

Thank you so much for all of your kinds words and prayers. I find so much comfort from you and it has been lovely being back here this past week 'seeing' friends and familiar names.

I know that feeling well. #9 was a really hard adjustment for me. Feelings are not truth. And sometimes it takes longer to work through the feelings but you'll get there.. and it's not a reflection of the love you have for the child, it's not a rejection. It's simply taking time to let yourself work through it.

Erica,
I never got to say hello and welcome on your other thread...so here I am!! Welcome! I'm glad you're back with us!!

Know that you're not alone in this. I struggle as well initially for a variety of reasons. Take Jodie's advice to be gentle on yourself and give yourself time to work through this with the help of your dh! I'm sure his strong shoulder will be such a help!

Now...on the spotting...I spotted with my last pregnancy and all was well, but I was very low on progesterone. We checked into it early enough to intervene and everything worked out. Is it possible to just call up your doctor/midwife and check your bloodwork and progesterone levels? It might give you some peace of mind and assurance during the ski trip.

Big !! Hope you have a great time with the family!

You can't help how you "feel". Feelings just are. You're open, that's all He asks. He'll handle the rest.

Praying for you sweetie.

Hi, Erica...waving southward in your direction!

I know these feelings well, and get tense just THINKING about them.    My eyes are misty from everyone's words.

Praying for you tonight. And, for your family's ski trip!

Hugs,

Thank you so very much. Thank you for the advice about calling my doctor, Jennifer. I felt less freaked out and made the call. It was late in the day Thursday, though, and to a doctor I don't normally see (long story), so I was unable to go in. The spotting pretty much stopped over the weekend which surprised me. I am going to call right now and see when I can get in. Because I still feel so confused about whether I am even pregnant (I had a lowish temp. this morning), I'm praying this visit will bring a lot peace - I know it will. :)

Our weekend away was lovely! It was a joy seeing my kids ski for the first time. They loved it and were quite good at it. We laughed that some of them have very little athletic ability but were naturals on the slopes. I told them to start saving their pennies now as it's got to be the most expensive sport/activity out there!

Your prayers and thoughts and kind words mean so much to me!

I'm praying, Erica! You've gotten some great advice and words of encouragement here. Praying that you get to see the doctor and that you have peace and strength either way.

It's great to "see" you!!
