I would say anywhere from about 8 on up to read independantly (I enjoy them myself!), any age for a read-aloud.

(I'm only just entering this discussion now, so if this has been mentioned, please forgive me.)

We have greatly enjoyed listening to the books on tape, and they are available in most libraries. My girls are avid readers of the whole series, but I think it really helped to introduce the books on tape first. My oldest was about seven or eight when we first borrowed the Redwall and Mossflower audiocassettes from the library, and they have been favorites for the whole family ever since. Even younger children love those tapes--my four year old boy is a big Redwall fan!
