We had two large storage units. In addition to the house (since we had to continually pack things into them when the dc came along...
UGH.
Much of DHs military gear was in there. A lot of "things we need to keep, but not have immeaditely to hand" was also in there.
SO yeah. The weight is likely right on the money. I've never doubted the weight amount, to be honest. I *knew* we were going to be overweight.
I just didn't think our overage was going to be 2 yrs down the road in coming at us, or that it would be over $5100.
SIGH.
And in more interesting news, our dogs have disappeared. Both of them. Since the late afternoon/evening Monday. DH's job situation may be for the best, actually. If he is right and his boss is, too, then we can plan on having the same pay we have now (before retirement fund/benies), but we'll get the money that we've been paying into the retirement fund AND the money we've been spending for the benies as well, so we may end up a bit ahead--before we pay for the military dental (which will run over $100/month , and is the cheapest option for families...). Of course, if his job ever goes back to Full time, then we'd have the double coverage....and could cut one of them off...anyway...
So, we may be "okay". But seriously, if *any* of you know anyone moving to or living in the greater Fayetteville, NC area, and is looking for a decent starter home, in a centrally located area, only about 5 min drive from a decent parish (complete with Catholic school), a good civilian hospital, shopping, etc, please please let me know.
Rachel

Rachel,
Have you talked to a local Chaplain about the situation? My uncle is a former Army Chap. and you would be surprised at the things that they can get done for you! My advice would be to pray, call a Chaplain, maybe call TMO? I would also look into calling legal if you still can since your hubby is no longer active duty. I wish you the best and I will be praying for this intention! My hubby is due to retire in 8 months so all of this is making me very nervous!
God bless,
Cheryl

Unfortunately, they have up to three years to bill you for overweight shipments.
Still praying for you....

Unfortunately, the per-pound rate when you're over weight is quite high. It varies from year to year, but it's hefty.
And, like the IRS, the transportation folks have three years' time in which to bill you. Unless you're suspecting you will have problems, your first instinct is to unpack, not to protest or ask for a reweigh...and then they've got you by default, since you need to unpack in order to exist.
(I have zillions of PCS move stories. New military brides, please PM me if you have questions about PCS moves!)
Rachel, I am not giving up hope. Our Blessed Mother had a few emergency moves in her life...let's beg her to help you!

Indeed...
The paperwork will be searched for next weekend (DH and the older three will be camping, and the twins still take NIIICE naps if I wear them out out of doors).
As far as retiring, just make sure you are prepared for the length of time the VA may make you wait for their disability decision! It really really *REALLY* depends on where you are going to be living once you get out. It took us six agonizingly long months out here in OK--but that is incredibly FAST for the VA decision making process...you'll get back payments in a lump sum, *but* you have to get to that payment, iykwim. Pay off every single bill you can, sell everything you can to lighten the load if you are moving...
