Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am always so sick the first trimester that I lose weight even when I eat the junkiest stuff (usually, for me, frozen Salisbury Steak and sherbet).

However, one thing that was useful that I learned in a book called No More Morning Sickness: think of what *type* of food you're craving. Sweet, salty, earthy? Cold, hot, room temp? Sticky, crunchy, soft? You get the idea.

If you can start to pinpoint the characteristics of the things that are appealing to you, maybe you will think of alternatives that wouldn't have occurred to you otherwise.

Soooooooooo...is there an alternative to macaroni and cheese, which normally I never eat, but sounds really really good right now???? I kind of feel like noodles don't exactly offer much nutrition...

Jodie, I had to put the oatmeal bars on hold till I get some vanilla. I am looking forward to trying them.

have the macaroni and cheese as a side dish.. then you can have it with a roast or pork chops or grilled chicken and a veggie (I just noticed asparagus on sale.. stil a bit pricey but.. spring is coming..)

Oh and if you make homemade macaroni and cheese, you can buy whole wheat noodles which will boost your nutrition a bit.

This is my go to recipe when I am craving something bad in pregnancy. It is so incredibly delicious, I think I am going to have to make it this week It is meant to be served as a dessert topping, but I have rarely used it that way. I just eat it as is. Also, super sweet is not my thing so I cut down on the maple syrup. I think I generally use no more than 1/4 cup. If I am remembering correctly it is a bit runny at first but takes on a thicker consistency once it is refrigerated. You cuold probably even use it to make "ice cream". Enjoy!

Vanilla Cream

1 C. low fat cottage cheese
1 C. low fat plain yogurt
1/3 C. maple syrup
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Combine well in blender or food processor until very smooth. Serve chilled.

89 calories/3-oz serving 0.8g fat

Would a grilled cheese work in place of mac and cheese? A whole grain bread and some natural cheese slices? I just ate two of these for breakfast - I had a whole wheat french baguette that I sliced, a little dijon mustard, a few slices of colby jack cheese grilled up in some butter - mmmmm!

Jennifer, I find that most of my cravings or aversions can be traced back to what I liked as a child. Like I want the soft white bread (wonderbread) of my childhood rather than the whole wheat that I normally love. Crackers and cheese and pickles are a great snack/meal for me because again it's one I loved when I was a child.

Absolutely. When pregnant I crave cheese-its with pickles, graham crackers dipped in a big glass of milk, and those hashbrowns like McDonald's serves.

Okay, so if we feed our girls healthy foods, they will crave them later on when they are pregnant themselves? Hmmmm

Nope. I had nothing but healthy homemade food (my parents were the original crunchy cons) and I crave Doritos in early pregnancy.

Thank you. I needed to hear that today.

I caved to a bowlful of mac and cheese last night alongside scrambled eggs, which I realize is a very weird dinner, but it was mild and didn't have a strong smell. I woke up this morning determined to eat better today.

I may try grilled cheese. That doesn't sound so bad...

ETA: I do something similar to that Vanilla cream with greek yogurt and stevia. Its very yum and also doesn't smell. I never thought about adding cottage cheese to it. Maybe I'll try that.

I had to laugh when I read this because I remember something similar that my ds made me when I was pregnant. There was a generous helping of maple syrup in it ...I had it then went to my midwife and failed my sugar stick test. I knew I shouldn't have had it, but ds worked so hard on it and was so proud...that and it tasted WONDERFUL! (shoudda known it was "bad" for me)
