I read the book after reading these posts. While the author encourages keeping your children close to you (a good thing), she also strongly encourages spanking. I did not like this book and do not recommend it.

it's definately one of those that you can take the choicest parts.. the tomato staking has a lot of merit regardless of what other forms of discipline are used in the home.

Thanks for the explanation. We basically tomato stake already. He is with me most of the time. DH and I talked and we think he is testing some boundaries because this only happens when he is not right there with me or thinks I can't see. Dh says he remembers the other two doing this around 6, so I suppose it's just a phase
