Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have 8 inches this morning. The wind has been blowing like crazy and there are huge drifts everywhere. I think we'll be stuck home from Mass tomorrow.

Any advice for getting the seed to the birds? All the seed I toss seems to sink into the snow Of course they need to eat to stay warm, and I feel sad for them.

set out a piece of flat cardboard to put the seed on? use paper plates? you could even punch holes in the edges of the plates and use yard or string to hang them from stuff. peanutbutter will let seed stick to something.. like the paper plate or pinecones or such.

Scooped out halves of oranges or grapfruit can be used as hanging bird feeders too.

We're getting snow.. funny the weather report said 20% chance rain/snow and snow level above 4800 (we're about 4200). we'll get no where near what you all are talking about.. we're desert climate so a huge storm that happens rarely like you're all talking about.. we might get a foot of snow.. maybe. So if we get anything real measurable out of this I'll be surprised.. maybe an inch or so.

But we should get snow off and on for winter and February is still definately winter here.

Just went out to help dh in the snow. It is so deep! 24-26 inch rough measurement. It's so difficult to walk through.

The neatest part is the color -- in the deep parts it's blue. It's so pretty! Now I understand why icebergs are blue.

It finally stopped. I would guess we have over 2 ft now. I just got a message that the Diocesan Administrator (we have no bishop right now) has removed the obligation to attend Holy Mass for this Sunday.

MORE SNOW!!!! Yikes! ...they (who are "they" anyway?? could "they" just stop calling for stuff??) are calling for another foot or more here. We gave up on Delaware and are back in VA where we do have power and also a wood-burning stove so we can at least have heat if the power does go out.

Was I teleported to Canada while I slept? It looks like an Arctic wonderland out there. If I knew how, I'd post a photo!

It is so odd for those of your south of us to get so much. We just got about 3-4" ...usually the reverse happens...we get buried and you get a little...but that will change over the next day or so...with wind to boot. I'm just praying for dh who will still be mandated to get to work ~pray for him, will you? He has to take the supervan and not his 4X drive vehicle as it is in the shop

On the other hand..the snow shoveling business will be a boon this week!

I do feel happy for all the folks out of work who are able to clear snow for extra money this week. We are supposed to get a lot here the next couple days and I know we'll be seeing lots of young men prowling the neighborhood with their shovels.

Know what's even stranger - we are what less than an hour from you Donna Marie? - and right now we have NO SNOW - we got nothing from that last storm.

But we've got big plans for tomorrow - if dh's school is closed we are going to have an early Fat Tuesday (well, a Fat Wednesday, I guess) and make donuts!! YUM!!

We'll be praying for everyone's safety but we are doing major snow dances over this way!!

Are we having fun yet?

Actually, the kids are having a great time. They have dug out an "igloo" in the huge mountain of snow that was shoveled off of the driveway. I am just trying to keep up with wet clothes and hot chocolate demand.

Our driveway is over six hundred feet long, and up hill both ways, the level part being a bridge across a creek. It is an enormous job shoveling it. Dh, dd13, and the other kids a little, have spent the better part of the last four days shoveling. I was out there the first couple of days, but I am just not in shape for it. Dh finally took my advice yesterday afternoon, when it was obvious we would never get it done before today's snow, and called some neighbor kids who had a plow and paid them to finish it.

It is certainly beautiful. And I am enjoying having dh home, but I could do without the extra 7-14 inches they are calling for tonight!

We're supposed to get another 8-10 inches by tomorrow. I'm ready for spring.

Yes, my garbage can lid looks like that, lol. The snow it just about level with the seats on our picnic table! I can't believe they are predicting 16 more inches for us! Where will it go?
