Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh had mentioned Schoolhouse Rock the other day to me, and I let it go in one ear and out the other, as I remembered that it didn't do much for me. But there I go again, trying to make my learning style fit. I'll definitely give Grammar Rock a try. Thanks!

"Conjunction Junction, what's your function?"

For the actual grammar, we used Shurley English. My dd is very auditory and learning all those jingles with Shurley really helped her. (I have to admit, I don't like it at all though, but I would like Winston. I guess that explains my learning style!)
I didn't care for the writing portion of Shurley though. I think I would stick with Lingua Mater for that. I have LM on my shelf but bought it too soon for this dd. She was a bit young. I'm hoping to use it next year though.

The boy/girl thing - I'm not sure it is as much boy/girl as it is learning style. My kinesthetic learners just can barely stand to read anything that is not action packed - and well all these stories are so sweet - Seton, CHC, Lingua Mater but it is more dialogue and description - not a lot of action. I love them. My kids need to be encouraged to appreciate these as well - but again small doses go over better.
If I want them enticed to literature, then I have to have knights with swords clashing and hardly a pause in the action. I can occassionally sneak in something else to expand their horizons - but on a daily basis, they just hate literature.

Yes! That's how it is in our house, too. I think the reason I have seen it as a boy/girl thing is because most of the boys I know seem to be this way, while even girls who like action can tolerate a bit more sweetness. But you're right: it doesn't matter if the child is a boy or girl, if he or she is the kind of of child who likes a lot of action, the LM selections are not geared to that. Knowing what your child likes/tolerates will help in deciding whether to choose LM or not.
