Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

can you check somehow if there is a local food buying club . Often these are run out of churches, community centers etc. my sil started one once she was settled in thier new home . It was really worth the effort she felt. I just saw on the news awhile back a church in Minniapolis started doing a food buying club after the recession began .
sorry not much more advice I think you are already a very frugal lady

You may find that some online options are cheaper than buying in Juneau. Everything's expensive in Alaska, it seems. We survived by bulk buying when possible, and lots of salmon and moose in the freezer. Also, we started using non-fat non-instant powdered milk as milk was over $5 a gallon in the local shops and that was almost 7 years ago.

Yes, I just went and re-checked some prices and found out I was wrong about milk being reasonable. It is $5.00 per gallon. I just cannot stand powdered milk.

well you could raise a couple goats

But there are options for dried milk that aren't the stuff you buy in the stores.. not instant is better than instant for example.

But there are lots of them out there at the warehouse food type places.. check out the different ones Walton Feed has for example.

Also even if you only buy milk to drink you might find that you could cook with the pwd milk. I've kept it on hand before and most people can't tell if I made gravy with pwd milk or not.

Someone posted here not so long ago about the benefits of whole milk... she said her family buys whole milk by the gallon and dilutes half with water. Even diluted by half it still has many health benefits. I wish I could recall the name of the thread.

If milk ever goes on sale, it can easily be frozen and used later, so you can stock up. also, watch expiration dates. Some stores (if you ask) will give you a real deal on about to expire milk. Then you can freeze it and use it later.

I sympathize on the cost of food!

We would mix the powdered milk half and half for drinking or just buy liquid milk for drinking and powdered for everything else.
