Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Good thinking, Charlotte. And thank you for the link. That's a good clue. In Cajun culture, the nannies and parians play a huge part in the life of the family and would do something like this.

we have padrinos and madrinas but we call them "ninong" and "ninang" and yes, depending on what they want to do they can "take charge" (or at least offer to) of certain aspects of the wedding. the groom's cake would be one example. others take care of flowers, or the wedding favors, etc.

Thank you, dear. That is all I pray. My bil and sil were quick to remind us that they got married when they were both fulltime students...she in nursing...even selling blood plasma to buy groceries.

God's will...always!

Praying for the bride- and groom-to-be and for the MOB and FOB.

And...in SoCal, at least where I grew up, no one ever did groom's cakes. This is actually the first time I've ever heard of this tradition.

"Fascinating," says she, in her best Spock voice.

And, Cay, I vote you wear your favorite color. My mom wore pale silver grey. My MIL wore light blue. I've seen MOB's wear gorgeous, rich burgundy, taupe, you name it...

Perhaps it is the Cajun culture to extend this duty to the godmother in a similar way?

Wow, the wedding is in New Orleans. I just realized Cay is in Louisiana. Maybe I will see you there in November? That would be great since I don't think we will have anyone but immediate family traveling for the wedding. Anyone else down south want to go to a wedding?   Plenty of room left on the groom's side of the church.

No, this is NOT a western tradition at all. First time hearing about it for me too.
