Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have every conceivable type of carrier out there but after about 4 months I find that the Ergo has worked the best for me and many other people. It shines as a back carrier and works great as a front carrier as well. Most versions have been adapted to allow for a hip carry (there was one edition where they did not have this feature) but I find that by the time I unhook and rehook the straps that I'd rather just throw them on my bakc. More even weight distribution for me and they can still look around and check things out.

That said I still keep a ring sling in my daily repetoire (my Zolo sustainable hemp is my personal fave) since it's easy to throw on and does a great hip carry (for shorter periods of time). Under 4-6 months my kids live in a Mobywrap and Ring sling most of the time.

I have beautiful wraps, mei tais and pouches that I use on occasion but those those three are my daily workhorses. Let me know if I can help you with anything I'm trying to clear out LOTS of inventory.

This is exactly how I feel about the Ergo--it works so well on the back, that I find myself putting baby on my back all the time rather than doing the hip carry at all.

I wanted to add that my Ergo is definitely my favorite carrier after four months but I still use a ring sling for short term hip carries well past the first year. I prefer the Maya wrap brand for all the reasons Jodie mentioned.

There is a bit more of a learning curve with soft slings but once you get the hang of it it is super easy. I can hold my baby, pull a crumpled sling out of my purse, untangle it, put it on, and get the baby in with no help at all.

On the other hand I do need to briefly set my baby down to use the Ergo. I can get him on my back unassisted (to the horror of all the old women at church and mothers in parking lots everywhere) but can't do the big buckle one handed.

The Ergo is so incredibly valuable as a back carrier that I never want to change the buckles around to use it on my hip when I have a ring sling available. And they are small to pack. It's not a big committment to bring one or both types of carriers on a big outing.

I have always used a rebozo I've 2 from guatemala & one from oaxaca . When I had my first baby way back 28 yrs ago my mother gave me just an old long blue scarf it was a very light wieght fabric but strong . I put Natasha in that and it was perfect as the material was very breathable for summertime . I love the rebozo because you can just adjust the know for seasonal wear .

Maya for hip-wearing and carrying babies under 1 yr.

Ergo for big babies and front/back carrying.

I have owned 9 different types of slings...

And these two are indispensable for me...
