Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter is adopted from Russia and I sometimes coordinate a camp for kids adopted from E. Europe, so I'm always pinning possible craft and other ideas about that area. Here are some of my pinterest boards:

http://www.pinterest.com/cherylsbasile/ee-camp-ideas/
(Russian architecture, ballet, etc. crafts)

http://www.pinterest.com/cherylsbasile/world-geography-homes chooling/
(General geography but ideas could be adapted for Russia)

(Last summer's EE Camp theme was Sochi Olympics. This is mostly photos of mascots, etc.)

(General Olympic theme activities)

Hope that helps!

What about Russian food ideas? Any good links for a traditional dinner for opening night?

Blini (a Russian crepe), Beef Stroganov (that's what we will be having on Saturday, since Friday is a meatless day), Schi (a type of cabbage soup--might be good for Friday), shashlyk (shish kabobs, which originated in the Caucasian Mountains, which are near Sochi), golubtsy (stuffed cabbage rolls), kotlety (kind of a breaded hamburger). You can find tons of recipes here:

http://www.ruscuisine.com/

http://allrecipes.com/recipes/world-cuisine/european/eastern -european/russian/

We plan to eat different Russian meals throughout the Olympics and use the matryoska (nesting doll) dishes I got from Cost Plus World Market a few years ago.
