Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know. There are elements I find disturbing, too.

My daughters have three AG dolls and a Bitty Baby and we've never had a problem. I would definitely return this.
Oh, look at this funny story on my blog about Hannah and her new Ivy doll. You have to scroll down in the post a bit.

We got dd a Target doll last year b/c I just couldn't see paying the $$ that AG charges, especially when their dolls are made in China! This year, dd still really wanted one of the AG dolls and I bit the bullet and bought one (a Just like me doll). I agree that the AG hair is much better than the Target doll but other than that I can't see much difference for the price. Also, AG's clothes prices are outrageous! Some of the doll outfits are more than I'd spend for the same thing for dd! Luckily I sew, and you can find lots of patterns for 18" dolls from the big 3 pattern companies, and if you watch Joann's for sales, they alternate having one pattern co. on sale each week so you can buy them for 99c or 1.99 usually. I have to admit I haven't actually made much yet b/c MIL bought dd several outfits both last year and this year but I have picked up several patterns to try when I have more time.

btw, dd was thrilled to get the new doll but still plays with both of them equally and agrees that the only difference is the hair (the Target doll came in pigtails and should never have been taken down, b/c it's cut to be even when up, but looks horrible when down)

I've also heard good things about Toys R Us's Madame Alexander dolls but have only seen them online so can't say how they are in person.
