Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh, the ribbon is so important to me! It really makes quite a statement!!!! And using the same special ribbons each year as we hang the Advent wreath adds to the family tradition. I remember that Tasha Tudor hung hers with beautiful red ribbons that she saved (from a wedding maybe ??? I can't remember where she got them from now). I DO remember that they were special, and were reserved for the honor of hanging the Advent wreath each year.

How lovely that beautiful purple satin ribbon will be hanging your Advent wreath, Michele! It's really quite exquisite! And the width is perfect! Great find!

I use artificial greenery, which is not as nice, but works for allergies and readiness. This is the base we use and it holds candles quite well. So far this is about 13 years with the same ring, although the greenery has been replaced.

Oh that looks so nice! I like how the ribbon meets in a peak at the top. I've used fake greenery plenty in the past an wouldn't hesitate to do so again. It makes things so much easier and it's really hard to tell the difference anyway.

I've been so inspired by these hanging wreaths. But just didn't think my boys would leave it alone. I'll have to post when ours goes up..luckily, we now have a very neat island chandelier over our dinig table and our wreath fits just on top of it. Which in years past leaving it on the table was such a temptation for the little ones.

Jenn, because of little hands I opt for the artificial greenery too and it hides our very simple base ring which we've had for 11 years now .

Oh Michele, that ribbon is just beautiful. Can't wait to see it all put together.

OK so I need your opinion on this. I realized (lying in bed one night) that I already have a 4 candle hanging chandelier that is beautiful and not being used. I tried it out at the dining room table and it works perfectly for hanging from the light there (dh agrees).

My problem is the color. It's sort of a speckled brown. I am thinking a coat of spray paint would be good but I really can't figure out what color. The light it will be hanging from is black metal.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, it's lovely! Great job remembering that you have this! I'm assuming you'll be weaving greenery in and out anyway, right Michele? Are the little flowers a part of the candle chandelier?

I'd do one of three things:

** Try to match the black of the light - safe.

** If not black, then I think a pewter is really lovely. Nothing shiny. Pewter has those tones of gray and black and is ever so slightly metallic looking which I think would make it go with the black finish of the light, but give it a slightly dressier finish than just black. I saw a Pewter finish spray paint at the hardware store just the other day, too.

** If you intend to use this exclusively as an Advent centerpiece which could then function as a Christmas centerpiece, I might go bold with a deep forest green! That would blend nicely with greenery and then during the Christmas season I imagine how beautiful it would look with white candles and other touches of white on it. Striking against the deeper green. This one would probably be the direction I would lean....UNLESS I envisioned using this for other purposes at other times of the year, in which case I'd probably go more neutral.

If you went black, the oil rubbed bronze metallic spray paint is nice and offers a bit more ooomf that just plain black--and it wouldn't have to match perfectly.

Although, I think *you* might like white, too. Our Advent wreath is white ceramic, and it does look very festive.

Michele, that is absolutely lovely!

I love the look of wrought iron so I like the suggestion of black. If it will only be used during Advent and Christmas I like the dark green too.

If you went with white or a creamy color you could add bright red candles during the Christmas season and it would look very festive too.

Yes the little flowers are part of it. They could feasibly be snipped off though I think painted all one color they would look fine and be easy to disguise if I wanted to.

I hadn't even considered white but what a great suggestion!    Then I could use it for our Mother's Days tea in May as well.

Thank you all so much for helping me to get a vision for it!

That was going to me my suggestion also. We've spray painted several items in oil rubbed bronze and think the effect is lovely.

My suggestion was also black like Janette I love the look of the wrought iron.

As far as the flowers go.. I'd go with an all over the same whether you choose black or pewter or bronze or white or green.. let the form of the flowers speak without needing to add any color or special painting. That will allow you to add greenery or flowers or whatever without regard for the *frame* having flowers.. just like a photo frame that is a solid color but with the form of flowers or such.

I do too. But the new handles for the kitchen cabinets doors are black wrought iron as well as the kitchen wall shelf brackets and the light fixtures in there AND the dining room light it be hanging from. I think the white would be a nice contrast and also give me more decorating options for it later.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking!

I'm not sure how it's done or the work involved.. but I really like the look of a white with antique gold brushed just on the raised parts and/or edges. I'm not sure if it's brushed on or sprayed on but it gives a very pretty antique look.

I had no time to paint it with my daughter in the hospital last week and working feverishly to finish a purple vestment set for Sunday. So I hung it as is and adorned it with cedar sprigs. It actually looks quite nice.

Oh, I'm sorry about your daughter!

And yes, it looks very nice with the cedar unpainted!
