Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would appreciate if you say a prayer for me. I hate this time of the year. I find it difficult to keep peace and to keep focused in what really matters. I feel bad that I feel this way. I find myself stressed out more than any other time of the year. It doesn't matter how much of an atmosphere I try to create in our home, it doesn't seem to work. I can't shut the world out. I can't shut my brain off. I am always preoccupied with the "doings" and "gettings" of the season. I am going to start another thread to see how you do it. This post here is just a cry for spiritual help.

Thanks,

Natalia, this can be a hard time of year for many people. My mom is one of them, as her mother died on Christmas Eve. Many and prayers from afar for you.

Dear Natalia, praying for you and relating! This is the time of year that we are so low on money until our business kicks in about a week before Christmas! I have found myself in the past resenting the "world" part of the holiday and stressing. I will keep you in my intentions daily!
Blessings,

I'm so sorry, Natalia. Especially with your name, it seems almost like a symbol of what has gone wrong with Christmas, that you would feel that way!

Our family has had so many incredibly difficult Advents. Advent always seemed to hit like a ton of bricks with medical complications and loss of babies in gestation.   It had the blessing of removing me from the competition of how to "do Christmas right" -- I had to admit myself a failure on that long ago -- but it does make this season a bit of a haunted one to me. Consoles me to think it couldn't have been a great deal of fun and comfort for Our Mother and Joseph, either.

I pray for consolation and divine counsel for you.

Natalia,
May the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, be yours on Christmas. I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this during Advent.

I've been reading some Tasha Tudor as part of my own desire to hearken to simpler, more peaceful thoughts. I find her philosophy to be quite beautiful, so I thought I'd share it with you here since it's more of a prayer than a practical.

Tasha writes that this is a philosophy that has guided her life. The quote comes from a Christmas letter written by Fra Giovanni, an Italian Franciscan Friar.

(Emphasis mine)
Fra Giovanni wrote:
I salute you. I am your friend and my love for you goes deep. There is nothing I can give you which you have not got. But there is much, very much, that while I cannot give it, you can take.

No heaven can come to us unless our hearts find rest in today. Take heaven!

No peace lies in the future which is not hidden in this present little instance. Take peace!

The gloom of the world is but a shadow. Behind it, yet within our reach, is joy. Take joy!

Life is so full of meaning and purpose, so full of beauty . . . that you will find earth but cloaks your heaven. Courage then to claim it, that is all!

. . . And so I greet you, with profound esteem and with the prayer that for you, now and forever, the day breaks and the shadows flee away.

Natalia. May the shadows flee away! Peace to you!

I have the same thing going here, just don't know how to make everything 'joyous'. I'm seriously thinking of not cooking for Christmas just because MY Christmas ends up being in the kitchen all day and I just did that for Thanksgiving and that was no fun . I will be looking into that other post for ideas and praying for all of you having tough times this advent.

I like what Willa says; it puts advent in perspective. I think I'll try to make our 12 days of Christmas the time to focus on JOY. For Advent, I'll offer contradictions while they're plentiful .
