I would be very unnerved at the lack of direct communication. Hiring a PI is one thing, but why not give you a better clue as to why.
I will pray for a quick resolution!

 ...seriously...my stomach turns when I consider any invasion of private life...I'm just so sorry AND I trust that God will provide ALL the graces your family needs during this unnerving time .

I agree with mackfarm. Until the question is answered why; don't worry. Pray, hope and don't worry! Padre Pio. I know it can be hard but you really need to be hard on yourself to try.
There's nothing to do about it for now, so try!! to enjoy your Advent season with your Family. Keep praying for peace and think of the baby Jesus, they were looking for Him too at this time of year.
Put your faith, trust & peace in Him.
Our family will be praying for you and when you find out if it isn't the best situation you will all get through it together. I'm sure. Praying all will be well and uniting our families prays to your family.
