I went out to take out the garbage a little bit ago and saw that there was a box on the sidewalk by our driveway. Upon inspection it was a sealed box of 6 packages of pre-cooked bacon from a well-known frozen food delivery service. We don't get deliveries from this company, so I called the company to report it so they could find out if/where is was missing and come get it. The customer service rep asked if I could put it in my freezer while he checked (though I assured him it was fine outside in the 19 degree weather ). Anyway when he got back to me he said we could keep it if we like or throw it away. That if they came back to get it they would have to discard it (such a waste...). So anyway, I am inclined to use it. As I said it's freezing outside so it has been properly refrigerated . The outside cardboard box was sealed and the packages are all individually vacuum sealed. I checked with our neighbors - they don't get delivery so it's not theirs. I feel kind of guilty - this is about $90 worth of bacon, but it's just going to waste otherwise.
What are your thoughts here?

sounds like the company will replace it for whoever didn't get it.. being properly sealed and "refrigerated" and the company told you they would have to discard it so you can keep it..
I don't know what's to feel guilty about.

I definitely wouldn't have a problem using it! If they told you to keep it, keep it. It makes sense that for food safety reasons, they would need to discard it rather than re-deliver it. YUM!

Remember they probably deal with regulations that don't account for common sense.. the same rule will apply whether it's 9* or 90*.

Those are yummy thoughts
It's just the melancholic in me - we have to worry and wonder about everything...
So, looks like bacon for breakfast. But I'm thinking it's going to be easy for them to get used to this pre-cooked stuff...
...and might I add my family loves bacon...a couple kids would eat it on everything...

I can't stop giggling about the visual of a "bacon fairy". Thanks for the smiles tonight!

I know--I was thinking, Mary, that maybe it was your husband's intention for his St. Andrew novena this year! Sounds like something my husband would pray for!

Too bad it isn't 90* weather. I would love a BLT right about now. You know the kind with juicy tomato dripping down your chin and FREE bacon on it!!!!
Enjoy the blessing!

Or, you could make chocolate-covered-bacon -- here's the inspiration
this treat from Vosges
Best of both worlds?
Enjoy, Mary!

There's a way you can make a blowtorch with bacon, or so one of my enterprising co-op students tells me...
...but I'd freeze some for Pancake Tuesday and enjoy the rest now!
