I know many of us use the living books approach to learning and spend many hours each week reading books to our kids.
There are so many wonderful picture books out there; I know I am always glad to hear about them. But it seems that many slip by us without getting posted.... I am wondering why, and if there is perhaps something we can do to encourage each other to post our great finds.
Please feel free to vote, leave comments or make suggestions....

I don't have any problem posting picture books suggestions...  so I won't vote.
I wonder if there should be an option:
__I forget to do it.
Because there are times I find a book I want to recomemend and then just forget to do it.

The same thing that keeps me from posting reviews elsewhere--or replying to a lot of threads here, for that matter--feeling like I need to be thorough to be helpful and not having the time! But that's a pretty lame excuse. I spend a lot of time here

What I can get is very limited and we only use the library in a very limited fashion.. I'm not sure what the problem there is but I get the feeling that any book we may check out is gone over with a fine-tooth comb when it goes back.. and we're blamed for any damage simply because we were the last one with the book. I've stopped letting the younger ones have books at all.. and only let the older ones get out children's books IF they and I go over the book before we check it out so that we know not to get it if it's going to get snagged on the return as "damaged" whether we do anything to it or not.
So anyway, I can't imagine that anyone is going to be excited to know that I got some suess books and beranstain bear books for my littles for Christmas.. nothing new and been around since before *I* was a toddler 
And yep.. The Biscuit (a cute puppy) board books I got would probably be classed as twaddle.. but what can I say.. I'd rather get a book for a toddler that they love because they love Biscuit than one that's "so good" but they don't pick up.

I think people might not be interested, or have difficulty finding the books I'm excited about. I guess I live in the world of mostly Out-of-Print books (OOP), and hate to recommend something people can't find easily.

Same. Most of my books are rare and OOP and then I've also been surprised IRL at how few people are interested in all those beautiful OOP Catholic books I love and collect.ETA:So it makes me hesitate to suggest books I know of.

Ummmm...now don't throw digital tomatoes...I just don't bother. Ducking....ducking again...ok...is it safe to come up now? I LOVE getting ideas here! Is that bad? Am I a taker?
Ok...the more serious and thoughtful reason...
Our library has improved dramatically in the last few years, but we don't go as frequently in the *virally gifted* months as we do in the summer. This means I tend to read from our shelves here...which most people have surely already heard others gush about. In general, I really just read and then don't bother posting about our picture books...UNLESS...it's in the context of an ongoing thread about a specific theme. Then, I really enjoy sharing, and often do.
So... I didn't vote...cause' there wasn't an option for:

Hmmm....
I'd say for me it's a combo of
- I forget -- we read so many picture books, and I try to make a mental note to post about it, then return it before I get a chance to, and next thing I know I have 5 other books I want to recommend and have already forgotten the titles of the last 5.
- I do a search, and turns out people already love it and it's already posted here (I guess that's what happens when we have the same good tastes in books!)
Oh Jenn, if you only knew! Those are TREASURES when anyone posts OOP books -- I almost always add those to my wish list... I think right now I have 13+ pages of wishes on Amazon mostly books recommended here. Lots of them are OOP.

This is one of my favorite things to find here as I love adding OOP books to my treasure hunt list! I think OOP resources and listings are one of THE most valuable assets this board offers! I'm always making notes!

Ditto this, plus the time factor. However, I would like to recommend more books because I really have been blessed by the suggestions on these forums. Sometimes I think my personal tastes might be a bit expensive and/or esoteric (Can you say The Mountain in Canaanite Mythology, boys and girls? )
One other thing that troubles me some is that I don't want to encourage families to spend beyond their means or be discouraged because they aren't able to afford a particular book, so I hesitate to recommend OOP or hard-to-find or hardback books that might be expensive.

I don't have time to figure out how to link.
Could I just post a review with the name of the book and the author and not link? Please.
Also I feel that if I post a book, I need to discuss how it can be turned into a unit study and find meaningful vocabulary words and an art activity based on the book, etc. Although I think is my issue and not an expectation the boards have created.

I relate to the "duh" comment Lisa made! I always think I'm a step behind...I don't think I find anything new. Like Jenn, I'm always taking from everyone else!
Plus to be quite honest, I don't like doing a lot of review stuff. I know there are moms on here that are more conservative than me, and some that are more liberal. What might be good for me, may be awful to someone else, and who knows, maybe offensive.

OK- so what I am hearing is a couple of things:
1. Afraid to post twaddle...
I, too, often wonder if I am posting twaddle (come to think of it, most of my posts on this board are probably twaddle )... but then I usually post anyway.
It seems like there are three types of books: definite twaddle, definite winners, and the murky grey zone.... books that some might think are twaddle but most people would probably enjoy anyway.
One book that comes to mind right away is Rosie's Babies . This is a delightful book, the pictures are so sweet- I love it. But it's really just a bunch of nonsense coming out of a 4 year old's head, right? Right- except not to me! We love this book, and I just found it by accident reading through an old blog post Elizabeth wrote last year. So I say (just my opinion) that if you think a book has some merit. post away! Don't let all the "Rosie's Babies" slip through the cracks
2. Afraid that the book is too hard to find...
You never know on this one. Some libraries have amazing things hidden away, if we only knew to go looking for them. I would love to hear about some of these that are OOP, etc
3. Afraid it's already been posted/already known....
Some of you have been mothers far longer than I have and know about all kinds of treasures that I don't. Also, there are new people joining the board all the time who might not have seen old posts. If you love a book, please post about it. Believe me, someone out there (probably me) has never heard of it- and if I have, I can always chime in about how great it is (kind of like revisiting old friends).
4. No time...
*Sigh* I feel your pain. I, too, make lists of things to post and then forget about them. Where does the time go? I don't know how to solve this one.
Anyway... thanks for all your feedback. I would love to hear more

Absolutely. That is what moderators are for- putting links in.
And also, IMO, there is no need for a lengthy review (that is what Amazon is for ). If one of you says a book is good, that's all I need to hear.

I didn't realize how much this factor bothered me until I started to answer this thread.
I'm afraid I've had a guilty conscience (especially over the past year) that (with the publications of Catholic and Christmas Mosaic and Picture Perfect) I have sunk some people into debt or, worse still, caused women to have to justify book purchases to their husbands.
In the very least, I have led them into temptation...
