Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One thing you didn't know about me is that my husband and I had one date before we were married. It was a sympathy date. I was visiting Las Vegas, where he lived, and, figuring I'd never see the place again, I wanted to go to a variety show. The people I was visiting couldn't go, so my friend set me up with this man who had been nice to me the day before. We talked on the phone on average once a week for a year and then he asked me to marry him. I guess the rest is history, so they say...

Well..I doubt it!

Ok something unknown...when I was 15 I entered a children's year long competition in my city's paper to submit as many drawings/poems/stories in that year to win a trip to Disneyland for myself and my family.

I went garage saling with my parents and found a Disneyland year book (it was like from the early 60's!) and I read that book every day during that year for inspiration. I remember saying to my dad, "Do you want to go to Disneyland?.. because we're going!" I drew about 1500 pictures in that year. They rang closer to the end of the year to make sure I was not tracing, which I was NOT, all freehand, 4 - 5 pictures a day....here is one they published on the children's page.

So I won and we went the following year and loved it.

So if anything Tina it tells you I'm very strong-willed, sometimes that's good, sometimes it's not!

When I was 10, I carried a spider monkey all around the zoo until I found the zookeeper. This sweet little monkey had escaped its cage and I was able to coax it to come to me. I didn't even have the sense to realize that these monkeys, although cute, can bite. Fortunately it just clung to me like a baby and was not ferocious!

Peace,
Nancy

Those days are long gone now

I was.....AAU Junior Olympics Bronze medalist in Judo for my weight class... back in third grade....for the region I was in.....and in fifth grade, (as the shortest in my class), I flipped the biggest guy in our class over my shoulder, onto the ground.....because he kept "picking on me". Everyone was stunned....including me.

You don't want to see me get angry, do you??? (Yes, I watched the Incredible Hulk in the '70's as well, do we have a green icon that plumps up?)

Now my judo moves are long gone, and I feel like a wimp as I limp through Leslie Sansone's walking video.....

Anne - what a lovely drawing - and at 15!   Wow!

Speaking of Disney, I worked there for one year

I have another, kind of embarrassing in a funny way, story? I looked to see whether to put this on the "Would you Think Less of Me?" thread, but they all seem so "current." My WYTLOM is in the waaaaay past. On which thread should I put it? This one or the other?

Why don't you post here, Tina, since this is where we are all currently reading...now you've got my curiosity piqued.

SeaStar working at WDW was a dream come true! I was a Canadian Representative at the Canadian Pavilion at Epcot Center. The pay was a dollar more than minimum wage, but the experience was priceless!

As an "International" I lived in an apartment a few miles away, with 5 young ladies who worked at Disney as well. The apartments resembled dormatories on College campus', and this is where all of the Internationals and Americans lived. You either had a 6 mos, 9 mos or 12 mos contract. Transportation was provided to ALL parks! We received 20% discount on all merchandise, got a few free tickets to the parks - for family/friends - and free admission for ourselves!

My favourite part was that you could literally meet a new friend everyday - just like here ~ on 4Real

OK. My aspirations to become a vetrinarian when I was in high school came to a sudden, crashing halt when I ... uh ... fainted at the vetrinarian office my brother took me to so I could observe his puppies' tails being docked and their dew claws being taken out. The whole process looked so inhumane. But that wasn't what finally put me over the edge. It was the poor puppies' squeals that did me in. I still remember the golf ball-sized bruise on the back of my head and the headache it caused.

I became a writer instead.

Oh, Tina, I can relate!!! I fainted in the hallway the very first day of clinicals in nursing school.. I had been at the bedside of an incontinent patient, and was overwhelmed with the whole scene. I thought, "great, that's it!!!" BUT.....I am very hypoglycemic, and the coffee with sugar for breakfast was NOT the best of choices....I did fine afterwards with a better breakfast. I got to the point where nothing bothered me too bad. Puppy squeals would have been hard!!!

Tina, one day visiting a vet's office with my volunteer intern friend completely did me in! I can relate.

My experience dates back to high school (Vereen and Goldblum were filming "Tenspeed and Brownshoe" at my school), so this is a great place to share your experience!

(My current life, while rewarding and hectic, is not particularly glamorous...and I like it that way.)

I always wanted to be in a mob family (without all the killing and stuff). The Godfather movies (1 and 2, didn't like 3 very much) are my absolute favorite movies so I guess that's why
