Anne,
How did I miss this update??? When was this? I was out of town much of last week.
Many, many to you! This is a difficult path to walk with our loved ones, isn't it? My family is a pretty scientific family, so I'm afraid there is absolutely NO ignorance for us. Sometimes I see how that would be nice...but right now, with Chris being the 5th person in the country to join a clinical trial for a promising new drug, the ability to stomp down the details, understand them, and ask specific questions has been helpful. We're all involved in the process and I'm grateful that we're close enough that we can each be involved in this process for Chris.
I want to encourage you so much! I wish I was a little closer so we could just sit over a cup of tea for a bit and allow our thoughts and chatting to escape to words that don't include chemo or cancer or ?? about the future! And, then with great respect for the Crosses our siblings are carrying, we could allow some of our thoughts to go there, sharing in the immense sorrow there, and encourage each other!
This is our brother and sister's "Way of the Cross". It's not an easy walk for them, in fact it can be grueling, but Our Lord is allowing them to be suffering servants and the graces they are being gifted and the suffering they are offering back must be monumental in its supernatural value. It won't be easy for us to be Veronica or Simon, but we can be. It's so hard to be with this suffering so intimately, but it is grace filled and not without its mystery and opportunities for offering back. Your presence with your sister is an immense comfort for her! Your ability to lighten a mood, or point out the simple beauty in a sunrise seen through the hospital window may be all she has to help her direct her thoughts, so preoccupied with pain and unknowns, to beauty...to joy...to mystery. These moments are so important to meet right now! Don't expect to plumb deep philosophical or theological depths in these moments...just allow the simple beauty to wash over you both. Accept mystery. Allow a moment of joy. God is there!
I'm worried about you, Anne! Despair flings the door wide open for the evil one to enter and recklessly plant more seeds of doubt, fear, confusion, ambivalence, disillusionment. Avoid it like the plague. Pour your anguished heart out to Our Lord present in the Most Blessed Sacrament...allow yourself a moment of unrestrained, emotional outpouring at His feet. Imagine your tears to wash His feet as did the woman's in Luke 7:38 and then hear him say, as he did to her that "(you) loved much...go in peace."
I'm praying so sincerely for Jane and for you, Anne! Praying that Jane's pain is managed, that this absess has been treated successfully, and that she can begin chemo, which in all its destruction, might also result in the destruction of this invasive cancer.
You can PM me any time if you'd like to and you need to talk. May Our Lady hold both you and Jane close to each other and close in her tender and watchful embrace as only a mother can when her children are hurting!

You ladies are just beautiful. Your words give me such comfort. I can't tell you how often I re-read these mesages to lift my spirits.
Jennifer, your words of wisdom are taken to my heart and I will try to keep myself away from the desperate feelings.
I will continue to pray daily for your intentions. Thank you all for your kind words.
Blessings,

It has been a very hectic and trying 2 weeks. Jane has been in and out of the hospital twice. Her cancer has grown significantly. We are so hoping that this chemo will shrink it.
Her pain has decreased immensely. They found simply by accident during a chest x-ray that her humorous bone was out of joint! This is a complication to the lymphademia in her arm and her inability to use it. This news was a relief to us all. She now wears a special sling and has a pain management specialist (thanks 4 lads mom ). She came home after 11 days in the hospital and spent her first night at home last night.
Your continued prayers are so needed. Jane still has a long way to go. I am so very thankful to our Lord for taking this extreme pain away. Your prayers are working and I feel the love from you all.
Thank you , Thank you , Thank you for your prayers. I will keep you all in mine.
Blessings and ,
Anne
