Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

And we are making sure we play a game of Masterpiece (The Art Auction Game by Parker Bros.) this month. It has a Homer print - The Herring Net as one of its pieces for "sale." I was just looking online and it seems this game isn't currently being made (it's not at the Hasbro/Parker Bros. site) and I could only find it used. Who else remembers this game? I still have my "vintage" copy from the 70s. Many a fun afternoon was spent with Millicnet Friendly, Baron Dietrich von Oberlitzer and the other "art buyers."

And on another note, the above mentioned Art Explorer site (where the Herring Net painting is) is really neat. You can magnify sections of the paintings and zoom in on details - right up to being able to see individual brushstrokes. Very fun.

Oh....you're making me cry ....we played a lot of Masterpiece when we were kids; I can't believe you still have the '70's game.

When I was much younger, I saw the game in great condition in the thrift store and didn't buy it.

MaryM --

I know we have roughly the same heritage -- but are you sure you didn't grow up in my house? We did so many of the same things (but didn't keep stuff ) so now I'm scrambling to try to re-create some of these cool games and toys from the 70s (without spending a fortune at companies like "Back to Basics" )

I just ordered some prints from Dover Publications. I wanted bigger prints for the wall (8x10ish), but I don't know where to look. Anyone?

I had not been following this thread before, but we just happen to be doing Winslow Homer here, too. I ordered prints from Ambleside Online
http://www.amblesideonline.org/ArtAngela.shtml

They are very nice quality and I got mine pretty quickly after paypal-ing.

There are many Masterpiece's on ebay. The price seems to have a wide range (based on condition but also just luck of the draw), but it looks like you can often get one quite reasonably. (Don't forget to check the shipping costs of each auction as they can vary widely.)
