Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ours is similar to most:

relish tray with:
dill pickles
carrots
celery
broccoli
cucumbers
dill dip

main meal:
Turkey
gravy
mashed potatoes
sweet potato casserole
green bean casserole
corn
fruit salad
rolls

dessert:
pumpkin pie
apple pie

later evening:
popcorn

I did just buy cranberries last night to make the cranberry bread mentioned in another thread. That may be added to the dessert table, too.
I think I might give that punch recipe a whirl, too.

And, don't know why! but I am getting hungry now!

God Bless,
Stacy in MI

I always have to make the same menu too. :) I would have a revolt I think otherwise...
turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce,
mashed potatoes, gravy,
green bean casserole, sweet potatoes with cranberries,
7 layer salad, rolls,
pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie, and usually cookies or brownies for kids who don't care for pie. It's usually just us for Thanksgiving, sometimes one or both of my brothers will join us if they aren't working. My dh is a nurse and *always* has to work on Thanksgiving so that he can have Christmas off, so we have our Thanksgiving on a different day.

We have a dairy free, nut free Thanksgiving. It really isn't too hard! For the last ten+ years, we have had just our Thanksgiving at my house, and usually my mom would pop in to help and eat with us.....but it was too hard to manage severe food allergies with all of the food at other houses. So, Thanksgiving is a big, big deal at my house...Now that we have moved, it is just us, but with five kiddos, that is a crowd around our small table!

I usually make pumpkin bread the day before, and we snack on that until the feast, which I usually do around 1pm or so......

Turkey with a herb rub.....love those!!
Mashed potatoes.....little soy milk and soy butter (Soy Garden-the best)
Roasted Sweet potatoes with marshmallows, (no dairy there...just chemicals)
Green beans in the crock pot with canadian bacon
Roasted asparagus
Salad (there is a very yummy dairy free ranch dressing and a thousand island that we love)
Homemade cranberry relish
Roasted Brussel Sprouts with olive oil and real maple syrup (YOU MUST try these.....awesome!!)
Homemade Dressing.....dairy free bread, left out a few days...cubed...mixed with sausage, celery, onion, and lots and lots of sage. Moistened with organic chicken broth.

I usually make a pumpkin pie with a recipe I have basically replacing the evaporated milk with tofu......it is so good!!!

Cherry pie....store bought, my dh's favorite.

Whew.....I'm tired just thinking of it, but I LOVE Thanksgiving.....the boys love it, and each year I look around the table knowing that it is getting closer and closer to when they might not always be with us.....away at school etc.... so, I just drink this kind of stuff up!!

I'm veering off topic, but this is so me! Last Thanksgiving I was in FL with my dad (who was in hospice. ) Dh and boys were up here in MI.    I missed them so much!    And I am SO excited for this Thanksgiving ; I cannot wait for my oldest two to come home from their respective colleges!!!!!!!!    Our Thanksgiving is also going to be just us this year. I have never looked so forward to a Thanksgiving, ever.

God Bless,

Ours sounds alot like tissuebox's. I blogged about it
here
As often as I use the same recipes for stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry salad, etc., you would think we'd all get tired of it. We never do though. I think it's partly because it's tradition, and also because I never make any of these things (besides the mashed potatoes) until Thanksgiving. We occasionally have a roasted turkey breast, but I don't ever cook a whole turkey at an other time of year. Even the recipe for yeast rolls only gets used at Thanksgiving. I also feel like I'm sort of honoring the people from which most of my recipes came; grandparents, great aunts, my mother in law, etc.

It looks like I have to rethink my menu.
My mom promised my brother spatzle (teeny tiny dumpling shaped homemade noodles). Noodles and turkey -- and mashed potatoes ???

Thankfully, she will bring the homemade cranberry sauce/jelly and corn -- hmmmm, I guess the ultimate cream cheese corn will have to be cut.

I'm just thankful my mom enjoys cooking so much (she's gifted!). She wants to cook the turkey and let me handle the ham.
