I can't even begin to describe what Fr. Jack means to our community, not just to the Catholic parish, but to the poor of our county. He is cofounder of a lay ministry, Missionaries of Our Lady of Divine MercyHe is an amazing gift to us all. He is an older priest, who only became a priest late in life after he was widowed.
He had heart valve surgery last week. We thought he was beginning to recover but this morning we woke up with this message in my inbox from the parish, please pray!!!!!
We are asking for your immediate prayers. Father Jack was not able to leave the hospital this past weekend. Father had to go back into surgery again this morning to remove fluid from around his heart. At the time of this e-mail he is returning to surgery due to a second complication within his intestines.He will remain in CICU in CRITICAL CONDITION for at least another week.

update: This comes from a homeschooling mom who works parttime (so to speak) in the church office:
"Father Peffley was able to visit with Father Jack today. Father Peffley said he is still in very serious condition due to the Pneumonia and has asked that everyone continue to pray for him.
Our own Dr. Ross has sent word from Father Jack's family that this afternoon was rough. They had to put a nasal feeding tube in to get nutrition to Fr. Jack and he needed medication for his heart, all of which can happen after this type of surgery. The surgeons think that tomorrow morning is over the hump time. The best news is that his daughter said he was complaining about stuff tonight!
Please continue pray for him."

Keep those prayers coming. Father Jack has spent the last 36 to 48 hours stable yet still in serious condition. He remains in ICU and hopes to be moved some time this weekend to a regular room. Father appreciates all the prayers and of course still needs them. The pneumonia is still a problem and he is extremely weak. They are still having trouble getting him to eat enough to get his strength back.
He has been lucky enough to have a few visitors but the hospital only allows immediate family during this Flu season. Please continue to pray !

This is the update that I received from the divinemercynow website. It was forwarded to me today, but I think it was sent out yesterday...

As many of you know, Father Jack had open heart surgery last Tuesday, November 3rd. He was progressing well until Sunday when his breathing became labored. Unfortunately, his lung collapsed, leading to another surgery yesterday, which was successful.
By last night, he was breathing on his own. Today he remains in ICU at Fairfax Hospital. He is on oxygen, but it appears his condition is improving. The doctors said they will have to take one day at a time until they have a better idea of how Father's improving.
Please take time today and throughout the coming days and weeks to pray for Father Jack's comfort and rapid recovery.
As cold weather approaches, we are sure Father Jack would like all of us to remember to help the poor through prayer, food, clothing, and monetary donations to the House of Mercy, according to your means.
God bless you and thank you for your prayers. We will keep you posted on Father Jack's recovery. |
