Amazing! God has blessed this sweet little girl so abundantly. A couple of nights ago we went to our friend's home for a birthday. I did not expect to see this little girl there because she had just had brain surgery 2 days before (they had replaced the part of her skull which had been removed because of the swelling). Anyway, she was there, sitting up, playing with some toys. I was totally amazed. She doesn't talk yet, and there is some issue with her vision, but she interacts with the people around her. My friend's parents and her husband's parents were there and it was so precious to see them all interact and love on this little girl. My own kids were neat to watch as well. Even our 2 year old seemed to know that he had to be very gentle with her. And, none of them seemed uncomfortable with the stitches in this little girls scalp, or the fact that her hair had been shaved in places. Anyway, I just wanted to send this very positive update and thank you all for your prayers. The foster mom still needs prayers and she is overwhelmed with everything right now. While this little girl is doing so much better, there is still much care involved and she has an 8mo sister who is also staying with them. It's a physical drain, but also VERY emotional with all the ups and downs regarding the trial of the man who did this. There is even some fear as the family members of this man know where the house is. So please, prayers of thanksgiving are in order, but also continued prayers for grace and safety for all involved.
Thanks so much!

I rejoice in this news, and will continue praying that Our Lord will shelter and protect these innocent children and assist justice.

I just wanted to come back and update one more time as this little girl, and her foster parents, have been such a witness of God's tender care and mercy!
First of all, she is still in need of prayer because of a recent surgery. Just after the abuse her brain was swelling and they had to remove a brain plate to allow for this. When they replaced the brain plate her body sort of "absorbed it", which sounds strange but I guess that happens sometimes(?). Anyway, she just had another surgery in which the brain plate was replaced again, this time one that her body can't absorb so she needs prayers as she recovers.
The foster parents have decided to pursue adoption, which is wonderful, but they also need prayers. This is quite an undertaking and the expense of this little girl's therapy will be huge (as a foster child it is being paid for by the state). There are also complications because a member of the abuser's family has come forward and would like to adopt. The problem is, she really wants to adopt this girl's sister, who was not abused (she's 1) but is "willing" to take the abused child too. My friend, the foster mom, doesn't think she even has a clue as to the care that this little girl requires and is afraid she will be put in an institution somewhere, or just not cared for properly.
And finally, prayers of thanksgiving!!! The doctors originally told the foster mom that this little girl would never walk or talk. Well, guess what?! She's walking beautifully with a brace and a walker and she's even taken a few steps on her own. She's a very determined little girl! She also says "mommy" clear as a bell and is learning other words. She communicates with sign language like a pro, which is beyond what the experts thought she would ever be able to do. She keeps amazing the doctors and therapists that work with her. I just know it is due to the many, many people that are praying for her. There is even an order of nuns here who have prayer vigils just for this little girl. It's truly amazing.
Just had to share my joy!
Thank you, thank you for all your prayers!

Wow, that is such good news about her walking and communicating, Becky. Thanks for updating. We'll keep praying, esp. about the other issues and her continued recovery.

I am so thankful for the caring and love these foster parents have lavished on this little girl. I will pray for them as they pursue adoption.

I'm not sure how I missed this before, but am so glad for the progress this little girl is making and no doubt will continue to make through God's tender care. I'm praying to Venerable Solanus Casey for her continued healing and for the foster parents. May God's will be done for her as far as whether it would be better for her to be with biological family or the foster/adoptive family (I sure have my opinion on what that should be, but trust that God knows best!). And, as Fr. Solanus used to say, I'm thanking God in advance with confidence that these prayers will be answered.
