Tracy,in a very small home perhaps you could use a shelf on a wall. I remember Alice making miniature altar shelves with her girls. |

I am grateful to you for remembering, dear Mrs. K!

We call ours "the Holy Table." Above it are the pictures of the Immaculate and Sacred Hearts. On it are various liturgically themed candles (which are lit during the rosary) and other changeable liturgical items. Next to it, we have a podium/dictionary stand with our Bible and several sacred pictures.
From suggestions here and other homeschooling friends, I am going to try to start a children's altar (with items from Our Father's House) and have dh make a smaller altar just for that. But I haven't figured out the logistics for where to put it and how to use it. I'll probably search old threads here and see how others used theirs!

We use the top of the piano, in the living room. It's a bit higher than everyone else's, but I have currently got 3 under 7, and another on the way--not exactly the prime age for leaving nice things laying down at their level, iykwim.
What I have up there currently (it's a work in progress), is a large framed image EACH of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart....in matching yet not identical frames. I have a statue of OL of Guadalupe, as well as one of OL of Grace, and one of HH John Paul II. We keep our holy cards (the ones NOT on the fridge door, lol), a small antique holy water bottle and stand with the MM on it, as well as our rosaries on the piano top as well. I have a St Benedict's crucifix up there as well, but I really want a standing one. I have two largish crystal vases (wedding gifts) with flowers in them (right now, cream colored poinsettias offset with gold "stuff"--can't think of the word for it). I've also got a small crystal votive of the Holy Family, and a small image of St Anthony of Padua up there.
My current plan is to get some nice linens for it, as well. Really go for the altar look, lol. A long piano scarf/runner over a long enough piece of fabric or mantel scarf, in the color of the particular liturgical season/feast day, would accomplish that nicely, I think. I'm also getting my liturgical season colored votive holders together, to change out when the time comes. After holiday sales are great for these! I picked up some nice red, green, and gold ones after Christmas. I'm hoping to get the purple ones after Easter, and the blue ones after Fourth of July. Hopefully. And I have a tentative plan to use etching cream on some regular glass ones to get some "white" ones, lol.
I've got to move slowly though--DH is like the frog in the frying pan, otherwise. Sneak it up on him, no problem. Do it all at once? And I am a "fundamentalist wanne be saint" (his words).
Gotta be careful with him--he's kind of touchy. But I am determined, if not as cute and cuddly as I once was...lol
