update: My dh was able to resolve the paycheck issue! We can eat this week. It seems the mix up was in the office and not with his boss this time. What a relief.
Baby girl is still refusing to nurse. I'm pumping every chance I get, but it is work and I'm very tired. Thank you for all your words of encouragement, prayers, and ideas. I really, really appreciate them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Could you please offer up a prayer for my family. There is so much happening right now, but the two most pressing at the moment are:
My newborn daughter can't/won't latch on properly. I am pumping all day and all night to keep my milk going and in order to give her breastmilk. I've had to resort to a few ounces of formula a day as I was drying up before I realized her problem. It is breaking my heart to not be able to nurse her, she's my 9th, I'm feeling old and incapable of producing enough. I just want to cuddle with her and nurse the nights away like I did with all her siblings.
My dh took a week off of work to be with us after the birth of the baby. He had the vacation time and gave plenty of warning to his employer that he would be off for a week sometime in September for the baby. Today was payday~they're not giving him a paycheck. He has a very cruel boss who loves to persecute my dh for being Catholic, for having a large family, for being a conservative (although he says nothing political at work), etc. My dh is hoping it was just an oversight, we live week to week, no paycheck would be huge. I'm very worried and the fact the baby needs formula $$$$ only makes me more anxious about the nursing problem.
Sorry to go so long, but I really could use a prayer or two. Sorry for the typos...
Oh Maddie, you have a lot to worry about right now. I am praying!!!
Please try (I know it is hard) not to worry about your nursing situation. Sometimes it takes a long time for baby to figure things out, and sometimes it just doesn't work. (I fought for six long weeks with ds before he finally figured out what to do...and then he always favored one side...it was so very hard!)
If you haven't tried the proverbial go to bed with baby (if possible) and rest all day to boost your supply, or haven't tried the traditional herbal remedies for boosting your milk supply, I can tell you that both worked for me.
And...if you end up mostly using formula, that is okay too. It doesn't mean you're a bad mom. With stress like this, it's amazing you can pump so often, in my opinion!
I will offer my day for your intentions and pray for your husband's boss, your financial situation and your peace of mind. Today (it is now October 1) is the feast day of my Confirmation patron, St. Therese, who truly believed that little sacrifices led to sainthood -and I believe she will intercede for your intentions. She knows what it is like to deal with difficult situations and to persist in your vocation.
I know I'm not the only one praying for you. You are not alone, really and truly.
(And, as the mom who was pumping at 2:00 a.m. with a deployed husband, hurricanes, dead cars and more, I officially give you permission to feel okay about any nursing/formula/pumping combination that works for you. When I finally gave myself permission to get a decent night's sleep, I enjoyed our nursing time so much more...it didn't increase, but I was awake.)
{{{cyberhugs from a mom who's been there...}}}
praying here!
you sound so overwhelmed, I was just going to leave it at that, but I gotta tell you, when my newborn son couldn't/wouldn't/didn't latch on, nipple shields were a gift straight from heaven. I'd heard all sorts of dire La Leche warnings, but my son ended up nursing til well past 2, so it didn't bother HIM too much. the hardest part was having to keep them clean between nursing sessions, but after a few months he got the hang of it on his own. (maybe his mouth finally caught up to his appetite?) just wanted to share, in case you hadn't tried that option yet.
but, like Nancy says, formula ain't so bad, either! do what you need to do and consider yourself well-hugged.
and as for your DH's paycheck ... is that LEGAL? sheesh!!
anyway: PRAYING here and will continue to do so!
Oh Maddie, big hugs to you!!!! Many prayers coming for you, baby and for your husband.
Give yourself lots of time to just cuddle and nurse, rely on us to hold you up in prayer!
Also, is there someone you can call who can help you with the nursing? Sometimes, even just another experienced mom can be helpful in looking at the nursing process and seeing what might be the problem.
Oh, Maddie
On this Feast of the Little Flower, I will ask her specifically to send you a little rose for your day! Dear St. Therese, intercede powerfully for this family, and all their intentions. Amen.
