Tom Petty...my dh picked up his greatest hits CD before he played the Super Bowl 2 years ago and since then he has taken my older 3 to his concert. I was a Petty fan in my youth and our whole family agrees that we dig him!
I don't know...ABBA may push this too far and provoke serious concern for me on the part of my dh .
I've never seen Mama Mia...I'll put it on my list. I just watched Bye Bye Birdie which I hadn't seen as a movie either...still pondering my reaction .
Love,

One of my girlfriends and I went to see "Mamma Mia" at the theater, movie that is. Dh wanted no part of it. We had a blast-I don't recall seeing a male there. However...there are a few parts definitely not for dc. I now have the video and only watch it when dc are sleeping.
Their music brings back, quite vividly, some very fun high school memories.

Seeing Steely Dan in a couple of posts brought back some great memories so I created a Steely Dan channel in Pandora and I'm loving it. They play the Beatles, Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Boz Scaggs, etc, etc. Lots of fun music!
I also have a Chick Correa channel and Al Jarreau from those days.....
What's on your Pandora?

So far the only old music I have purchased from years ago are a few i-tunes. I remember buying the Eagles greatest hits back in high school and so I bought a couple of those songs about two years ago. Wow, those lyrics and story lines in those songs were all new to me. I don't think I realized what I was listening to back in those days (pretty suggestive lyrics)! I was also a Petula Clark fan when I was about 13 so I got "Downtown" which my 8yo dd just loves to listen to. I did enjoy watching the "British Invasion" special on PBS a couple of years ago. But in general some of that music from my teens seems rather depressing to me now. That was back in the 70's so maybe that has something to do with it?? I think I have better memories from the 60's and 80's.

I just read this thread for the first time...wow!!! Isn't it funny, now, to see some of these people that we listened to so much as teens ( and some of you apparently, still listening to ) ...and now they are like, OLD??? I have seen so many performers in the last few years, and I can't believe how old they are. Peter Gabriel had a documentary his daughter filmed, I think...I watched last year for a little....(big fan years ago), and I could NOT BELIEVE how old he was. I still picture his as the cute guy on SNL singing "In Your Eyes".
Sting is my personal fav.....I was an original Police fan...that man has not aged, must be all of his yoga..(and being married forever)

Me, too! And especially with Sting--original Police fan here, too. Stood in line for hours to get my wrist band to see them tour in their Synchronicity concert in 1983 when I was in high school--and I met Andy Summers the next day in person as he was at a local bookstore signing his photography book....I was first in line!!
Sting has not aged...makes me feel not so old--just wish I could say the same!!
Ah memories!

I know! We saw Neil Diamond probably 10 years ago (maybe more,) and I thought, "wow is he old," and "wow, his voice isn't quite the same as it used to be." How did they get so old? I mean, we're all the just the same aren't we?! Kind of like going to the drs. and seeing a new doc who really should be in high school! I mean, how do they graduate them so young? OK, I'd better stop there...haven't had my morning coffee and been feeling kind of ...shhh... older...shhh lately.

Ah, Stacy, I am so, so there. It used to be me, the new, young RN, who people say, "send me a REAL nurse, you are too young"....now, they probably would wonder how many grandkids I have!!
Jennifer, isn't Sting the best??? I saw him on some PBS special a few year ago, and he did some kind of Medival music, it was so beautiful. I wish I could find a DVD of it. Did you catch it?
Okay, I didn't get to see Sting until the '90's, I am so jealous you saw the Police!!!!! AND met Andy Summers?? I'm telling my siser, she had a crush on him.
Off to find my best of Sting...

what? has no one mentioned Cat Stevens yet??
Cat Stevens brings back very early good childhood memories for me!
I tend to like male vocalists, but have always LOVED Fleetwood Mac.
yay Sting, too!
I really am enjoying his Winter Album, even though some people hate it!!

I can't believe that Moody Blues wasn't mentioned earlier in this thread. I love Moody Blues.
Actually, our musical tastes are much similar to many of yours (we don't have Foreigner), but we've been getting into Celtic music lately.
ETA: Let's not forget Boston, my fave!

I have this ~ untested, unproven ~ theory that people get *stuck* in a certain time period of music. That's why classics remain classics. Our kids listen to the music we listen to and LIKE it. When we were growing up, our parents listened to WEZW 104 Easy Listening. Basically MUZAK. It was s-l-o-w. We kids hated it.

Oh, if we're talking Chicago, I love
Song For You
The only thing that ruined Chicago for me after YEARS of loving them was seeing Peter Cetera on TV. I had a TOTALLY different pic of him in my head.

OK, you all are cracking me up!
ABBA, Duran Duran, Cars, Boston, Journey, and a little Pat Benatar. Oh, and Foreigner.
I remember belting out those songs...and now I can't put them on the radio!

Okay, you're ages are showing. Ditto to many of these singing groups/people, however...ladies, those are mostly from the eighties. :)
Are you all THAT young here? LOL
How about lots more Chicago,The Monkees, The Beatles, Sonny and Cher, the Doobie brothers (take me by the hand pretty mama...), Elton John (saw him in concert in 1976, just nutty :), Rod Stewart AND the Faces, Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater, Rare Earth, The Osmond Brothers, The Jackson Five (wink), The BeeGees, Three Dog Night, AND....drumroll please.... Don McLean - you know, American Pie? Now, really..who does NOT own that song? LOL
Walk with me for these parentally overplayed ones;
John Denver, Debby Boone, Glen Campbell, Neil Diamond, Loretta Lynn, The Carpenters, and Carole King.
I remember having to sit in front of the TV when I was younger, the whole neighborhood did actually, to watch American Bandstand with Dick Clark. Those were the days! Ahem, and some of YOU weren't even born yet! In the sixties? Ya know? Gotcha!
I actually like all kinds of music, except the rap crap, wink.
Hubby and I attended a Rod Stewart concert a few years ago and sat in the box from his corporation. We really enjoyed the entire first half of nostalgia complete with him kicking out soccer balls to the audience as gifts, but then, have to admit when he came out in a black tux and the entire Vancouver symphony orchestra behind him for the second half, everyone loved all those "crooner" songs too. sigh... guess I'm still a toe tapping mama and yet I love my croons/elevator stuff when a "calm" is necessary. Besides who would perform any exercise cardio to mozart? Just can't be done. Need some Pumping up type of MUSIC! :)
Music Nostalgia brings it all back, doesn't it? LOL
