Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

..."the Greatest Hits of" CDs?

I was talking with an IRL friend and confessed something weird - that I had just purchased Journey: Greatest Hits ...for some unknown reason...I was never a huge Journey fan...I don't know...weird!

It gets weirder...she cracks up laughing and says that she purchased the same CD last year and since then has purchased the Greatest Hits of Earth, Wind, and Fire as well as Chicago plus she is now asking for more CDs as gifts. Since then, I've purchased Genesis (I was a fan for years) and plan to purchase E.L.O. next (never owned their stuff...just seems like happy music now.) My friend and I decided that somehow this music must lighten our load...what do you think? More importantly...

Which Greatest Hits CD have you or would you purchase?

Love,

I don't know if you'll like any of these but here's who we have:

Billy Joel, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Earth Wind and Fire, Journey (yes we have it), Spyro Gyra, Earl Klugh, Chicago (too many), Genesis, Hall and Oates, Toto, Kenny Loggins, Kenny G, Huey Lewis, Rod Stewart, Michael Macdonald, Foreigner.

I'm now saving up for an iPod to digitize our collection. Then I can get rid of these. If you don't mind waiting, I won't mind mailing them to you

What a voice    Rolling Stone put him at 76 on their 100 Greatest Singers list. Elena, it makes me smile to know you're a Journey fan

Tracy...you've reminded me that I have them here somewhere...where? I'll see if I can track them down...although, I think I enjoyed Paul Simon more when he was solo going through his world music era...Graceland, Graceland .

Love,

hmm I think we got Graceland about that same time too.

I can't remember the last CD I got for myself that wasn't Christmas or also for the kids..

Weird...? I don't think that is weird at all. Now we can be Journey fans together as well...
So, yes, I do own the Journey Greatest Hits cd.

Quote:
Which Greatest Hits CD have you or would you purchase?

And having gone through a period several years ago, where I joined Columbia House Music just to buy greastest hits albums - pretty much from the 70s and a little 60's, here's what I own ...

ELO's Greatest Hits
Styx's Greatest Hits
The Eagles ~ Their Greatest Hits
ABBA Gold
Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits
The Cars Greatest Hits
A Decade of Steely Dan
The Best of Jackson Browne
The Best of Alan Parsons Project
Billy Joel ~ The Complete Hits Collection
The Best of the Moody Blues
Paul McCartney ~ All the Best
The Beatles ~ 1
Foreigner ~ Records
Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship Greastest Hits
Billy Joel ~ The Complete Hits Collection
The Monkees Greatest Hits
Carpenters ~ The Singles
Barbra Streisand Memories
The Partridge Family Greatest Hits
Seals & Croft Greatest Hits
Gord's Gold
The All Time Greatest Hits of Roy Orbison
The Very Best of the Righteous Brothers
Elvis Pressley Top Ten Hits

...and stef's post remnded me that on cassette (which I never listen to) I have Hall & Oates, Jim Croce, Simon & Garfunkel, Bread, Little River Band, and Lionel Ritchie/Commodores.

The year before last for my Christmas gift, my sons downloaded and burned cds of:
Herb Alpert & The Tiajuana Brass Classics Vol. 1
The Best of the Ventures
Bee Gees ~ Their Greatest Hits, The Record

I have to say for just upbeat fun I love the Ventures (California surf music) and Herb Alpert (South of the border brass) - both instrumentals.

How embarrassing is this...hopefully the classical music only gals aren't reading this thread...

I was just coming back to say some of the others we got about that time (my dh has that cd case as work so I couldn't go look)

Styx's Greatest Hits
The Eagles ~ Their Greatest Hits
Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits

Thanks Mary for the memory boost

oh and Credence Clearwater Revival

We have very eclectic tastes.. we have the zip shut cases that you can slide the disks into.. one is kids and Christmas music, one is country and Jazz I think, one is classical and newage and blues and one is rock of various eras.

This is so funny! I got an Ipod from my kids for my birthday (not mentioning which one!), and I have been on a nostalgia quest for the last few months- Fleetwood Mac, Credence Clearwater, Rod Stewart, Bread, the Beetles, Neil Diamond...well, maybe you can guess how old I am! I think it's my version of a mid-life crisis! Anyhow, I'm having fun with it, and it's helping a lot on those long car rides back and forth to VA. Every so often I have a guilt-ridden moment and switch back to Bach for a few hours!

CD's....the only "oldies" on CD I own is Stevie Wonder, and that is because my "album" got cracked!
I still have my albums of:
Earth, Wind and Fire
MANY, many (ok, all!) Elton John's
Diana Ross
a few Beach Boys
Journey (the first concert I ever attended)
Chicago
Billy Joel
J. Geils Band
Loggins and Messina
The Brothers Johnson
Grease
Huey Lewis and the News (more new than old)
Vivaldi's Four Seasons
Jessye Norman
The Commodores
Lional Richie
Hall and Oates
Michael Jackson
Genesis
A VERY Old Disney album of "The Sword in the Stone"
Handel's Messiah
and, I no longer own it, because, in a fit of "cleansing out the rubbish" that came with having children and
actually listening to the lyrics! of my music, I pitched AC/DC Back in Black. Yes, I used to like it.

Fun to recall those "Old days!" Now I will go listen to Chicago!

God Bless,

My dad is having his LPs digitized and I can hardly wait! I grew up with the Weavers, Harry Belafonte, Theodore Bickel, etc. and these albums aren't on CD.

Of course we have tons of 70's and 80's music, sadly mostly on vinyl (with no record player). We've bought some CDs but we have so many discs that I don't really want to go on a shopping spree.

We do have Greatest Hits of:

Queen (vols. I and II)
Simon and Garfunkel
ELO
The Who
The Eagles
Mannheim Steamroller
and a few more...

...as well as a wacky collection of international music (Irish, Scottish, Turkish, Hawai'ian, and more), and...

every single Weird Al CD.

LOL -- this is just so funny. We should have just all pooled our collection -- there are many here I didn't even mention in my first post -- Styx, Eagles, ABBA, Carpenters, etc. dh and I first bonded over music. He was a Columbia House member and I was with BMG. Then we *merged* our collections when we got married. I just remembered 2 more -- Dan Fogelberg and James Taylor.

and now I'm singing....

"and even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with ya, honey"

sigh.... those were the days

My first post since I turned 40 and it's about Journey. I've LOVED him since I was 12 and my kids play their songs for me on Rock Band The only reason I allow it in our house. If only there was a Journey Rock Band!!!

I am going to have to buy this cd. He's amazing!

My dh went to AL to work one spring for about a month. Made a friend there who could transfer LP's to CD. I don't have many.. I think my sister has them now. But dh arranged to send him my "Merry Christmas from Lawrence Welk" and he put it on cd for me.. so that last Christmas I had all the songs again (it's a 4 or 5 album set) and I had a few that were saved on cassette tape is all.

Me either...that's what's so weird about me suddenly wanting to purchase "Journey" of all things! I hope I'm not being a bad influence on you, Jodie...but if you do get the desire - know that you aren't alone .

Yep...he/they performed here in Tempe on New Year's Eve...I caught some of it on TV and thought he sounded a lot like Perry. So much talent.

Mental note: Angie, do not join a Music Club - could be a near occasion of sin . Also, pray the classical only gals aren't reading this thread .

We do too...and we have a 4 disc player: 1. Classical, 2. Theme for the month, 3. Child choice, and 4. Bedtime. Something's gotta go

ABBA...absolutely! My Swedish cousin played trumpet for them for years! I've watched Mama Mia about 200 times! How embarassing! How low-brow! How fun!
